Radi: Routes and Cultural Heritage
Accommodation in Radi
Radi can be placed in travel plans through specific route descriptions and its traditional connection with Nogarole. A named hill path leads to Contrada Radi; the “Nogarole Trail – Valle del Tinazzo” also reaches and passes through the contrada. Traditionally, Radi is connected with Nogarole through parish life and local festivals. Chiampo offers a distinct focus on culture and faith, including the Pieve, Grotta, Via Crucis, and Marble Museum. This brings route guidance and historical culture together as separate interests.
Routes to Contrada Radi
The “Itinerario tra le colline della Valle del Chiampo verso Nogarole” follows an uphill forest path to Contrada Radi. The climb is part of the described route and can be taken into account when planning your day.
Another route connected with the contrada is the “Nogarole Trail – Valle del Tinazzo.” After a turn in the forest behind Via Radi, the trail reaches Contrada Radi. From there, an unpaved gravel road runs through meadows; the route then continues along the trail. As a mountain bike descent, it follows Via Radi and passes through Contrada Radi. These route sections provide concrete landmarks: the forest turnoff, the contrada, the gravel road, and the stretch through the meadows.
The “Cammino del Beato Claudio” is a 189-kilometre spiritual and cultural route from Santa Lucia di Piave to Chiampo. It connects municipalities via secondary roads and can be travelled on foot or by bicycle. Its two endpoints, length, and possible modes of travel give this route a different scale from the paths leading to Contrada Radi.
Cultural and religious sites in Chiampo
The Pieve of Chiampo was established before the year 1000 and was the starting point for the evangelisation of Valchiampo. The Pieve houses a painted marble statue of the Madonna and Child dating from 1480; it also has a Baroque altar dating from 1743. The Franciscan community began its presence at the Pieve in 1867. Here, early church history, a 15th-century work of art, a Baroque altar, and the history of the Franciscan community come together.
The Via Crucis in Chiampo is a spiritual Stations of the Cross featuring several stations and life-size bronze statues. The stations give the route its religious structure, while the life-size figures add an artistic dimension. Religious design and sculpture are thus both part of what defines the site.
The Grotta of Chiampo offers a different focus. It was inaugurated on 29 September 1935 and is a faithful replica of the Lourdes Grotto in the French Pyrenees. The tomb of Blessed Claudio lies at the foot of the Grotta. Its inauguration date, the named original, and the tomb describe three distinct aspects of this site.
The Museum of Chiampo displays a collection of slabs made from 74 types of Chiampo marble. Local marble is thus the focus of a dedicated museum visit. There is also a picnic area along Viale dell’Incoronata at the Sanctuary of Chiampo. Those who include cultural and religious sites in their travel plans will find historical and artistic themes in Chiampo, as well as this specific place to take a break.
