Explore Lastebasse through three distinct perspectives: the highland landscape above the Astico, hiking and cycling routes, and churches and places of remembrance. The municipal area stretches along the right-hand slope of the upper Astico Valley and lies between 420 and 1,822 metres above sea level. Its location in the Astico Valley and its hiking and history themes can help guide you when looking for a hotel in Lastebasse.

Landscape and waterways

The terrain is steep and rugged, with deeply cut, wooded valleys shaping the area. Val Lunga follows the border with the Trentino municipality of Folgaria, while Val Lozza follows the border with the municipality of Valdastico.

The Civetta stream descends from the Altopiano dei Fiorentini and flows into the Astico just below the built-up area of Lastebasse. The Val Civetta is home to waterfalls that are among the few in the province of Vicenza and are considered particularly attractive to visitors.

Hiking and cycling

CAI trail 571 begins in Lastebasse, just behind the church. The starting point of CAI trail 569 is at Pickel, near Contra’ Giaconi di Lastebasse and beside the bridge over Val Civetta.

Other described hiking sections lead from Lastebasse towards the Altopiano dei Fiorentini: one offers quick access to the plateau, while another passes Soglio D’Aspio. A trail from the Restele chapel offers wide-ranging views. From Forcella Molon, the summit and Fort Campomolon can be reached on foot in about 20 minutes. The municipality recommends checking trail conditions with the relevant CAI section before setting out on the described hikes.

There is also a clearly quantified cycling option: the challenging mountain bike route “Dall'Altopiano alla Val d'Astico” passes through Lastebasse, is 100 kilometres long and has 480 metres of elevation gain. The details for this cycling route and the walk from Forcella Molon describe very different time and distance scales, which you can take into account when choosing your activity.

Churches and historic places of remembrance

Among Lastebasse’s sights is the parish church of S. Marco evangelista. The church of S. Prosdocimo vescovo in the hamlet of Posta is another, as is the church of S. Fermo e Rustico, dating from 1833.

The area’s historical significance is also reflected in its different sites: Bassa Val delle Lanze–I Fiorentini is designated as a Palaeolithic archaeological site. The Forte Campomolon area is considered a place of historical and commemorative interest; Val delle Lanze–Fiorentini is designated as a trench system.

The Monumento a Carlo D’Asburgo stands on the Altopiano dei Fiorentini, within the municipality of Lastebasse, at an elevation of 1,450 metres. It commemorates Emperor Charles of Austria’s visit to his troops and those who fell in 1915–1916. The Cippo a Carlo D’Asburgo in Busatti di Lastebasse is a First World War monument dedicated to Archduke Charles of Austria. It is located on Strada Regionale 350, about 10 metres from the bridge over the Astico.
