Bertigo is a destination or a point along several routes: the B1 loop trail leads to Contrada Bertigo after Cippo Niccolai, and “Il Sacrario Militare e la Calà del Sasso” also passes through the Contrada. The routes associated with Bertigo have different focuses—from First World War memorial sites to woodland and pasture sections, and a viewpoint overlooking the central plateau. If you are looking for a hotel for a stay in Bertigo, you can use a route that interests you as a starting point for your planning. Routes, historical connections and seasonal notes vary.

Hiking Trails and Route Selection

The B1 loop trail | Cima Ekar – Monte Valbella – Bertigo – Turcio reaches Contrada Bertigo after Cippo Niccolai. The recommended time for this route is from May to October, provided there is no snow. The loop trail is also available as a GPX track. Along the way, it passes through places affected by the Battle of the Three Mountains. If you are considering this route, you can factor the recommended season and snow conditions into your plans.

Another hiking option is “Il Sacrario Militare e la Calà del Sasso”: the route is 13 kilometres long, runs through woodland and pastureland, and passes through Contrada Bertigo. Along the way are numerous sites associated with the First World War, particularly the Battle of the Three Mountains. This route therefore combines a specific distance with a landscape of woods and pastures, as well as a strong historical connection.

The two routes offer different points of reference when choosing: the B1 loop trail combines a seasonal recommendation and a GPX track with its connection to the Battle of the Three Mountains. For “Il Sacrario Militare e la Calà del Sasso”, the 13-kilometre distance, the landscape and the numerous sites associated with the First World War are specified. This lets you make your choice based on the details that matter to your tour planning.

Trails and First World War Memorial Sites

The Via Tilman route also has a historical connection: it follows the path taken by Major H. W. Tilman during the war on his way to his command post. The trail offers a way to explore this historical context through a specific route, rather than simply as a place name.

On the summit of Monte Valbella is a sacred area with a memorial stone, altar and cross. These features commemorate the Bersaglieri who fell on these mountains. The excursion to Cima Valbella and the Monumento ai Bersaglieri passes through Contrada Bertigo, by the Sciovie di Valbella and onwards to Contrada Laben. The excursion also includes the monument to Captain Eugenio Niccolai in LocalitĂ  Melaghetto. These named stops give the tour a concrete connection to the area's memorial sites.

Views and Other Activities

The B1 loop trail offers a viewpoint near the huge yellow bench in front of Malga Campocostalunga, with views over the central plateau. This vista adds a landscape element to the route's historical connections. The viewpoint's location is specified: it is near the bench, not at just any point along the trail.

A mountain bike route from Asiago to the Astronomical Observatory also leads into the area: it follows the unpaved Via Tilman and reaches a paved road near LocalitĂ  Bertigo. Surfaces and access conditions may change. If you are planning to ride this route, check these conditions before setting out.

A short trail also leads from Bertigo to Malga Ronco di Carbon. The route can optionally be extended along a short unpaved road to Casara Stenfle. If you take this extension, be aware of the notes about changing surfaces and possible access restrictions; check current conditions before your visit.

Alpine ski slopes run along the slopes of the Cima Ekar area. Operations and snow conditions are seasonal. If you plan to include this option in your itinerary, it is a good idea to check the latest information in advance.
