Explore Valmorea through its landscape, trails and local history. Its inhabited districts, the Torrente Lanza and its historical connections offer different ways to understand the character of this destination.

Landscape and Trails

The two inhabited districts lie on a moraine terrace about 400 metres above sea level. To the west, the Torrente Lanza forms the municipal boundary. The elevation refers to the location of the inhabited areas, while the river marks the western boundary.

The Parco Valle del Lanza trail network includes unpaved trails, farm tracks and a cycle and pedestrian path. The trails follow the Torrente Lanza and the historic railway line; the route passes via Valmorea railway station. This description of the network therefore provides specific points of reference: trail types, the river and the railway line.

The Lanza–Lura Trail passes near the Valmorea fish farm. As trail conditions can change, it is a good idea to check the current route before setting out.

Ponds and Fish Farming

Buzzun is home to aquatic wildlife typical of these ponds, including frogs, dragonflies and water striders. The Valmorea fish farm uses natural ponds to raise fish. These are distinct connections with nature: the focus at Buzzun is on the ponds and their wildlife, while at the fish farm it is on raising fish in natural ponds.

Church and Local History

The Church of San Biagio is documented as a chapel from the late 13th century and as a parish church by the end of the 16th century. Its Baroque architectural features can be seen both outside and inside: the façade has two storeys, while the interior has a single nave. Ionic-Corinthian pilasters form part of its architectural design. “Two-storey” describes the façade, while “single-nave” describes the interior.

A small house with a garden in Caversaccio is also connected with local history. Carlo Mozart bought it on 17 December 1853 and later left the house and garden to the municipality. The purchase date and the subsequent bequest are two separate milestones in this story.

Two stone cist graves found in Caversaccio in 1936, accompanied by pottery, provide another historical point of reference. They date from the transitional period between Celtic and Roman rule. Together with San Biagio and the house in Caversaccio, they offer different historical perspectives: from archaeological finds and church history to a 19th-century purchase.

Discover Valmorea for Your Stay

The trail network draws attention to different types of paths, as well as to the Torrente Lanza and the historic railway line. The local history, in contrast, offers specific connections to architecture, archaeology and the house in Caversaccio. This makes it easy to choose what to explore in Valmorea based on the topics that interest you most during your stay.
