Discover Beltheim
Accommodation in Beltheim
Beltheim is located in the Vorderhunsrück. Its municipal area is characterized by forests, open fields, and streams; near the village, the Helljaheisje Chapel offers a place to rest. The wider Rhein-Hunsrück destination also has its own landscape, cultural, and touring themes.
Landscape in Beltheim’s municipal area
Forests, open fields, and streams are the defining features of Beltheim’s municipal area. The area is becoming increasingly popular with hikers, sports enthusiasts, and walkers. For travelers who want to focus on outdoor activities, this landscape is a useful local point of reference. The combination of wooded and open areas, along with streams, gives the municipal area a varied landscape.
Helljaheisje: a rest stop along the way
The Helljaheisje Chapel is a small building made of slate rubble stone near the village. It stands where the Uhler Weg meets another, unnamed country lane. After a hike or walk, the chapel offers a place to rest. In summer, there are two wooden benches outside. This local building thus provides a specific place to take a break during a stay that includes walks or hikes.
Beltheim in the wider Rhein-Hunsrück landscape
The wider Rhein-Hunsrück destination encompasses landscapes beyond Beltheim. The Rhein-Hunsrück district covers large areas of the Hunsrück, part of the Rhenish Slate Mountains, as well as the section of the Upper Middle Rhine Valley on the left bank of the Rhine. The district also includes large parts of the Hunsrück plateau and the quartzite ridges to the south, such as the Soonwald. In the Middle Rhine Valley area, the Rhine forms the district’s eastern boundary. These features describe the district as a whole; Beltheim itself is part of the Vorderhunsrück.
The UNESCO designation also applies to specific parts of the wider destination: parts of the Hunsrück-Mittelrhein municipal association and the town of Boppard in the Rhein-Hunsrück district are part of the Upper Middle Rhine Valley UNESCO World Heritage Site, recognized in 2002. This regional context complements Beltheim’s distinctive landscape with a cultural and scenic dimension of its own.
Cultural history in Kastellaun
Another cultural highlight in the wider Rhein-Hunsrück destination is the Museum of Regional History in Kastellaun. Through themed exhibitions, information panels, and original documents, it traces the region’s development from the Middle Ages to the Cold War. A visit to the museum therefore offers a historical perspective spanning the medieval period to the recent past.
From April 25, 2026, the museum will be open Thursdays and Fridays from 12:00 to 17:00, and Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays from 11:00 to 17:00. Check the opening hours again before your visit so you can plan around the listed visiting times.
Hiking and cycling routes in the Rhein-Hunsrück district
The Rhein-Hunsrück district has numerous hiking trails, including the certified Soonwaldsteig premium hiking trail. The Saar-Hunsrück-Steig crosses the Hunsrück via Kastellaun to the Rhine at Boppard and covers a total of 410 kilometers over 27 stages. Stage 21 runs from Kastellaun via Mannebach to the Schmausemühle mill. Along its 17.7 kilometers, open landscapes alternate with the deeply incised gorges of the Frankweiler Bach and Baybach streams. Before setting out on a specific hike, check the current route and certification status of the Soonwaldsteig.
Cycling routes are another way to explore the region: the Rhein-Hunsrück district has extensive, well-maintained, signposted routes along the Rhine and through the Hunsrück. During the 2026 season, the RadBus route 629, the RadBus Hunsrück-Mosel, supports cycling trips on the Schinderhannes cycle route between Kastellaun and Emmelshausen, as well as on the Schinderhannes-Untermosel cycle route between Emmelshausen and the Moselle. Check the timetable before planning; different timetables may apply in future seasons.
If you are looking for a hotel in Beltheim, you can use the local landscape and the Helljaheisje Chapel as a starting point for planning your trip. The museum, long-distance hiking trails, and RadBus service are additional themes of the wider Rhein-Hunsrück destination.
