There are several ways to focus your stay in Holdorf: Heidesee with its beach and swimming facilities, nature trails, historic buildings and BĂĽrgerpark. If you are looking for a hotel in Holdorf, these different aspects of the town can help you choose the places you want to shape your stay.

Heidesee and trails through the landscape

Heidesee offers recreation for families, swimmers, surfers and sunbathers. Its landscape features clear water, white sandy beaches and densely wooded stretches of shoreline. Lifeguard services, refreshment stands and restroom facilities are seasonal. If these amenities are important for your trip, check what is available during your travel season before visiting.

The Heidesee Route leads from the lake through fields and small wooded areas, follows the Cardinal’s Way and passes a forest chapel. Trail conditions and access may change; check them before setting out. The Mühlenbach Nature Discovery Trail, also known as the Silver Ribbon, offers a different perspective on the landscape and its history. It runs from Holdorf towards Damme along the route of a former ore railway. The trail includes five interactive stations and observation platforms.

At the waterworks in Holdorf, the Tree & Nature circular trail introduces the connection between forests and water quality. Highlights include a fruit-tree avenue and an avenue of Trees of the Year. Dersaburg, meanwhile, is a wooded rampart on a 107-metre-high hill between Damme and Holdorf. Historically, it served to monitor plank paths through the moor. Together, these sites offer different themes: nature observation, educational stations and a historic fortification.

Churches, farms and local history

In the centre of Holdorf stands the neo-Gothic parish church of St. Peter and Paul, consecrated in 1858. The corpus of the altar cross deserves particular attention: it dates from the 16th century and comes from the workshop of an OsnabrĂĽck artist. The church thus brings together its own architectural history and an older work of art.

Gut Ihorst lies in the woods beside the road from Holdorf to Steinfeld. The estate includes a listed building dating from 1680 and a Baroque chapel from 1737 surrounded by a moat. The estate has been owned by the von Spee family since 1882; the chapel was extensively restored in 1975. Hof zu Amtern also has a long history: it is documented as early as 1240 and is distinguished by its elaborate half-timbered construction.

The old railway station in Holdorf dates from 1899. Information panels cover the station’s history, making it another place to explore the town’s past. Holdorf also has an indoor swimming pool. If you would like to plan a cycling tour, consider the Dersa Route: a cycling route in and around Holdorf that starts at the town hall. Check trail conditions before setting off.

BĂĽrgerpark: local heritage association and events

A historic farmstead has been relocated to Bürgerpark. The ensemble also includes a community centre and a coach house, and serves as the new home of Holdorf’s local heritage association. The farmstead and amphitheatre are regularly used for music, dance and theatre; individual programmes may vary. This is where historic buildings and cultural events come together.

An inclusive playground is located right next to the farmstead. Two accessible paths lead to it, and there are around 60 bicycle parking spaces on site. If these facilities are important to your plans, it is advisable to check their current status before visiting.
