Eschborn can be explored through several distinct themes: local history in the museum, art in public spaces and events throughout the year. When choosing where to stay, it is therefore worth considering the places and activities that interest you most. The following examples offer practical starting points for planning.

Local History and Culture in the Museum

The Alte Eschborner Mühle on the Westerbach is a listed cultural monument with a large half-timbered gatehouse. A mill at this site is documented as early as 1405; a new building was constructed in 1692. The site’s long documented history and a later phase of construction are therefore both part of its story. The half-timbered gatehouse gives the monument a distinctive architectural feature.

The museum and town archive are located at the central Eschenplatz. On the first floor of the town museum, you can see archaeological finds and medieval exhibits, with a focus on Eschborn’s fortified tower and the Battle of Eschborn in 1389. The second floor has a dedicated area for the painter Hanny Franke, who lived in Eschborn in the 1960s and 1970s. The museum thus brings together archaeological and medieval subjects with the work of an artist whose life was connected to the town.

Regularly changing exhibitions complement the collections. The town museum also has a hall where concerts and talks are held; the programme may vary. If you are interested in a particular event date, check the latest information.

Art in Public Spaces and the Sculpture Park

The sculpture trail offers a different spatial perspective on art: it runs as a network with various intersections throughout Eschborn and Niederhöchstadt. Depending on where you are, views from the trail shift between Frankfurt’s skyline and the Taunus. The combination of art in public spaces and changing scenery sets it apart from the focused presentation in the museum.

The Eschborn-Niederhöchstadt Sculpture Park was established in 2010. Permanent works of art are displayed throughout its spacious grounds, which include lawns, meadows and perennial beds. The park is also a venue for cultural events and exhibitions. Together, a network across the town and a landscaped park represent different ways of encountering art in Eschborn.

Leisure Activities and Events

Wiesenbad offers a variety of facilities to suit different kinds of visit. The outdoor pool has a multi-purpose pool with 25-metre lanes and a non-swimmer area, as well as a toddlers’ pool and a water playground. The sauna area includes an outdoor log cabin sauna, a steam room and a sanarium. The outdoor pool operates seasonally, and sauna opening details may change. Check the latest operating information before planning your visit.

Events may also influence your choice of travel dates. Eschenfest takes place over a weekend in May at Eschenplatz in the centre of Eschborn. The festival includes an extensive programme of music, cabaret and children’s activities, as well as a large market; exact dates vary. The Christmas market is held at Eschenplatz on the second weekend of Advent. It features stalls run by clubs and associations from Eschborn and Niederhöchstadt, as well as performances by choirs and music groups. The programme may vary. If you would like to plan your stay around either festival, check the specific dates.

For cyclists, the “Art Safari for Young and Old” route starts at Eschborn station, Schwalbacher Straße 4. As route details may be revised, it is advisable to check for updates before setting off. Many years ago, the town also designated official running routes through the Westerbach Green Corridor, measuring 5 and 8.5 kilometres. This earlier designation should be distinguished in time from the cycling tour, which has a specified starting point.
