The Main-Taunus district combines the vineyards of the Upper Rheingau with the Taunus forests and historic sights. Viewpoints, gardens, buildings and cultural attractions offer different reasons to stay. If you are looking for a hotel, you can start by considering whether nature, history or a particular view will shape your travel plans. The examples below show how varied these interests can be in Main-Taunus.

Panoramic Views and Garden Scenes

The Flörsheim Regional Park is ideal for family outings, walks and bike rides. From its observation tower, you can see far across the surrounding area. The Meisterturm in Hofheim offers a different perspective: its 35-metre-high viewing platform provides sweeping views across the Rhine-Main region. The Kaisertempel on Staufen offers views of Eppstein’s old town, the castle ruins and the hills of the Vordertaunus. You can choose between views across the surrounding area, a panorama of the Rhine-Main region, and the combination of an old town, castle ruins and rolling hills.

The gardens also offer a variety of highlights. More than 6,500 roses grow in Hattersheim’s Rosarium, where a rose pyramid entwined with climbing roses is a striking feature. The Old Spa Park in Bad Soden dates back to 1823 and combines English garden design with mature trees. While the Rosarium stands out above all for its abundance of roses and the pyramid, the spa park is defined by the combination of garden design and old trees.

Historic Places and Culture

Eppstein Castle holds more than a thousand years of history. Its walls and grounds, along with the castle museum, show how people in the region lived and defended themselves. Flörsheim Watchtower offers a different historical connection: the 15th-century watchtower recalls the Kastel Landwehr and is also a destination for hikers and cyclists. Check local route conditions before planning your trip.

In Hochheim am Main, St. Peter and Paul Church is a landmark featuring Baroque elements and frescoes. In Bad Soden, the Hundertwasserhaus, with its colourful façade and tower around 30 metres high, shapes the townscape. Hofheim’s old town, meanwhile, is characterised by winding lanes and historic houses, with cafés offering a place to take a break. The permanent exhibition at the Hofheim City Museum covers art, archaeology and local history—topics that add further perspectives to the city.

Art exhibitions, concerts and readings take place in the historic Zauberberg complex in Kelkheim. If a particular programme is important to your visit, check the dates in advance, as programme details may change. The European House of Prayer in Hofheim-Langenhain is open to everyone. As of 8 September 2026, visiting hours were listed as 9:00 to 20:00 daily from 1 April to 31 October, and 9:00 to 18:00 from 1 November to 31 March. Opening hours may change, so check before your visit.

Enjoy Nature and Plan Excursions

Since 1991, the Weilbach Gravel Pits Nature Conservation Centre has offered nature and environmental education as well as advice. Exhibitions at the Weilbach Gravel Pits visitor centre explore topics related to nature conservation and the region’s development. Together, these offerings provide a range of ways to engage with the area, from education and advice to exhibitions on nature and regional development.

There are also several starting points for hiking. Eppstein offers idyllic hiking trails as part of its tourism attractions. The Bonifatius Chapel in Kriftel lies along the approximately 180-kilometre Bonifatius Route from Mainz to Fulda. While Eppstein’s trails are described as a local hiking option, the Bonifatius Route—with its length and two endpoints—provides a guide to a longer-distance route.
