Oberasbach – Hainberg, Hiking Trails and History
Accommodation in Oberasbach
Oberasbach offers several starting points for planning a stay: hiking and nature, opportunities for sporting activities, and historical topics. The Wallenstein’s Camp Adventure Trail depicts camp life with 28 interactive steles and conveys the history of the siege. The route is 20.4 kilometers long. Its historical setting encompasses Oberasbach, Stein and Zirndorf.
Hiking Trails and Landscape
For choosing a hiking route, the three signposted Oberasbach circular trails offer different lengths: 4.4 kilometers, 7.9 kilometers and 14.3 kilometers. They lead through the town, across Hainberg and through the surrounding Franconian cultural landscape. You can hike the interconnected Oberasbach trails in full or in stages, and reach them directly from any railway station by local public transport. Check the specific public transport connections before you travel.
The Hainberg nature reserve lies east of the districts of Altenberg and Unterasbach. It contains the largest contiguous area of sandy dry grassland in northern Bavaria. The Kreuzbach, also known as the Asbach, flows through the protected area and forms a pear-shaped pond there. The stream lies entirely within the municipal area of Oberasbach.
A path through parts of the renaturalized Kreutleser Wiesen runs between Langenäckerstraße and Jahnstraße. It invites you to stroll alongside the winding Kreuzbach and crosses wooden bridges; newly planted trees line the path. This lets you combine a walk through the meadow landscape with a riverside route, while the signposted circular trails offer a choice of distances.
Sport and Culture in Oberasbach
The pump track next to the skate park at the Hans-Reif Sports Center includes rollers, banked turns and jumps. It is suitable for BMX and mountain bikes, scooters, skateboards and inline skates. These different uses are brought together in one place; the features mentioned give an idea of what the sporting side of a stay can offer.
The city of Oberasbach provides a designated wall for graffiti artists to experiment and create. Spray painting is restricted to this wall. Check the local usage details before your visit. As a historical landmark in Oberasbach, the Protestant Church of St. Lawrence offers a different focus: its nave dates from the 13th century.
The Walter-Weichlein-Weg is also part of the town’s history: it opened in May 2016 in the Sattlerwiese area. Station 20, named “Marketenderplatz,” is also located in Unterasbach. These details add named stops and local points of interest to the hiking and history themes.
More Destinations in the Wider FĂĽrth Travel Region
The wider Fürth travel region also includes cultural and nature destinations in other towns. In Ammerndorf, the Art and Nature Trail offers four themed routes through areas of art and nature; the educational trail starts at the threshing machine house. In Roßtal, the Archaeological Circular Trail passes the excavation sites of the former castle. Large information panels explain the history of “urbs horsadal,” the name by which Roßtal was first mentioned in a document in 954.
In Cadolzburg, the castle has preserved building elements dating from around 1250 and houses the interactive castle museum “HerrschaftsZeiten! Erlebnis Cadolzburg.” Check current visiting arrangements with the castle operator. In Langenzenn, the former Augustinian Canons’ monastery complex dates from 1409; its cloister is particularly well preserved. The wider Fürth travel region therefore also encompasses archaeological, religious and art-historical themes that differ from Oberasbach’s nature and hiking options.
