Discover Inzell
Accommodation in Inzell
Inzell brings together nature, outdoor activities, local traditions and local history. As you plan your trip, you can decide whether to focus on outdoor activities, architecture or an annual festival tradition. The options offer a range of different themes, from the natural swimming lake, cycling network and adventure trail to churches, reminders of the mining industry and the Michaeliritt horse procession, which you can explore according to your interests.
Nature and outdoor activities
The Inzell natural swimming lake covers 10,000 square metres and has a 3-metre diving tower, a 50-metre swimming lane and a shallow area for parents and children. It is open seasonally and depending on the weather. Take this into account when planning if the lake is part of your stay.
The well-signposted, certified cycling network connects the Inzell valley basin with the Alpine pastures of the Chiemgau Alps. Cycling here therefore centres on two named areas and the route connecting them. This is different from a trail with a single destination at the end.
The Bergwald adventure trail does have such a destination: it winds through the mountain forest, features interactive and information stations, and ends at Lake Frillensee. The stations and endpoint give this trail its own character. When choosing between the options, you can therefore consider whether you would prefer to focus on the connection between the valley basin and Alpine pastures, a route with stations and a destination, or the facilities at the natural swimming lake.
Churches and local history
The Baroque Frauenkirche in Niederachen has shaped the landscape since the late 17th century; its historic heritage includes votive paintings. The parish church of St. Michael in Inzell has Rococo altars and a larger-than-life Holy Trinity sculpture surrounded by groups of angels. The two churches thus offer different points of interest: the Frauenkirche is notable for its longstanding presence in the landscape and its votive paintings, while St. Michael stands out for its altars and sculptural decoration.
A small monument in the Inzell district of Schmelz commemorates the local mining industry. This memorial adds the history of mining to the religious and art-historical themes. If you would also like to explore the area's history during your trip, it offers another distinct point of interest.
The Michaeliritt in late September
Every year in late September, the Michaeliritt horse procession travels through Inzell to the Frauenkirche in Niederachen, with around 120 splendidly decorated horses, carriages, brass bands and local associations. The horses are blessed at the church. The procession is therefore a distinctive date to consider when planning your trip: unlike the churches and trails described above, which can be visited on an ongoing basis, this event takes place at a particular time each year. Details may vary from year to year. If the event is important to your travel dates, check the information for the relevant year.
