Museums of History, Art and Crafts
The German Peasants' War Museum in Böblingen documents the German Peasants' War of 1525. A working, true-to-scale replica of an early printing press also gives visitors the opportunity to print title pages from pamphlets of the Reformation and the Peasants' War. The German Butchers' Museum is dedicated to the history of the traditional butcher's trade. It shows how meat and sausages were made using a sausage kitchen from around 1900, and illustrates the development of historic shops from the 14th to the 19th century.
In Waldenbuch, MUSEUM RITTER focuses on geometric abstract art. In addition to exhibitions, it offers guided tours and art talks for adults and children. The Museum of Everyday Culture – Waldenbuch Castle is housed in the former hunting lodge of the dukes of Württemberg, in the town centre. Both museums offer different perspectives on art and culture in Waldenbuch.
In Weil der Stadt, the Kepler Museum is divided into seven exhibition areas arranged in chronological order. It displays several major works by Johannes Kepler, mostly in their original editions. The Weil der Stadt City Museum tells the story of the town as a walk-through chronicle across 15 rooms and three floors. In Herrenberg, 146 steps lead to the Bell Museum in the collegiate church, with sweeping views over Herrenberg and the Gäu. Its two levels house 36 bells that can be rung. Bell concerts are held regularly on the first Saturday of each month at 5 p.m.
The Herrenberg City Gallery displays various art forms, including painting, graphic art, photography and sculpture. The Grafenau Local History Museum presents rural farming and household life as well as village crafts, and is part of the Schloss Dätzingen cultural and communications centre. The range therefore extends from fine art to everyday life and craft history.
