Gäufelden: Art, Remembrance and Circular Routes
Accommodation in Gäufelden
Gäufelden offers several different reasons to visit: art at the Ackermann Sculpture Garden, remembrance at Hailfingen-Tailfingen, circular routes on the Local Heritage Trail and cycling at the Öschelbronn cycling stadium. When planning your trip, you can first decide which themes you want to shape your visit. The approximate length and starting point of each route are also useful points of comparison.
Art at the Ackermann Sculpture Garden
Large steel structures, several studios and a decommissioned railway carriage are grouped together at the Ackermann Sculpture Garden in Gäufelden-Nebringen. A Gesamtkunstwerk has been taking shape in Lutz Ackermann’s sculpture park for decades. The various elements combine large-scale steel forms, workspaces and the railway carriage; the long-term creative process is also part of this focus. For art enthusiasts, the focus is therefore not just on a single sculpture, but also on how different elements come together to form a unified work. This makes the sculpture garden a different travel theme from the memorial or the circular routes.
Hailfingen-Tailfingen Memorial
The documentation room of the Hailfingen-Tailfingen concentration camp memorial is located in the town hall in Gäufelden-Tailfingen, in the centre of the village. The exhibition and memorial room was inaugurated on 6 June 2010. The multimedia exhibition room is primarily aimed at school classes with students aged 14 and over. The memorial to the Hailfingen-Tailfingen satellite camp is at the western end of the runway on the former airfield grounds and is accessible year-round. When planning your visit, it is helpful to distinguish between the exhibition room in the town hall and the memorial at the former airfield: the two sites focus on different aspects of remembrance.
Three circular routes of different lengths
The sections of the Gäufelden Local Heritage Trail can be compared by their approximate length and starting point. In Nebringen, the approximately 6 km circular route starts at Nebringen station. The section in Öschelbronn is approximately 3.5 km long and starts at the car park by the cemetery. In Tailfingen, the approximately 5 km circular route starts at the car park behind the Bürgerhalle community hall. Öschelbronn therefore has the shortest of the three stated routes, Nebringen the longest and Tailfingen the one of intermediate length. This lets you choose a route based on the distance you want to cover and factor its starting point into your plans. Check current local conditions before setting out.
Track cycling training in Öschelbronn
RSV Öschelbronn offers open track cycling training for everyone at the cycling stadium. The regular training sessions do not take place during school holidays, so check the current training schedule before visiting. In addition to the open club training sessions, groups can arrange an individual time to use the Öschelbronn velodrome. Check current availability and make arrangements with the club. For planning purposes, the difference is that open training follows the club schedule, while groups can arrange their own time.
Find a hotel for your stay
If you are looking for a hotel in Gäufelden, you can start with the reason for your trip: are art and remembrance your main interests, would you like to plan a circular route, or are you interested in track cycling training? Make your further choices based on your personal requirements and the details provided for specific offers.
