Accommodation in Schönaich
Schönaich brings together cycling, local history and seasonal leisure activities. This offers a range of options for your stay: the museum cycling route runs through several towns as a longer route, while the local history museum, historic church and outdoor swimming pool offer a local perspective. The activities can be grouped into outdoor exercise, history and swimming.
Cycling the museum route
The museum cycling route is 60 kilometres long in total and connects Weil der Stadt with Nürtingen. One section runs through Schönaich along the Aich towards Waldenbuch. The stated distance refers to the entire route; the Schönaich section is just one part of it.
Along the museum cycling route, streams, meadows and forests shape the changing landscape. Standardised information boards help cyclists navigate and provide information about local sights. The route thus connects its two endpoints while pointing out local attractions along the way.
Local history museum and town history
The local history museum is housed in the Old Town Hall, on the corner of Große Gasse and Wettgasse. Its collection includes prehistoric finds, agricultural and craft tools from Schönaich and Miletitsch, and traditional costumes. The exhibits thus cover everything from early finds to objects relating to agriculture and crafts.
The museum barn complements the collection with machines, tools, artefacts from earlier trades and examples of rural traditions. Two natural stone ovens have been in the second section of the barn since 2011. The local history museum offers regular opportunities to learn about Schönaich’s history on the first Sunday of each month. Check the opening arrangements before visiting.
Schönaich was first documented in 1274 under the names “Schoenaich” or “Schoenenaich”; the town is thought to have originated in the 7th century. The church’s history can also be traced through time: it was known as St Martin’s Church until 1309 and was later dedicated to Saint Lawrence. It served as a fortified refuge and was surrounded by a wall with loopholes.
Outdoor swimming pool and leisure activities
The outdoor swimming pool is considered family-friendly. Its children’s pool consists of two pools connected by a slide; there are also water play features and a sandy area with mud tables. A playground with a carousel, sandpit, climbing tower and slide adds to the facilities. The large heated pool is supplied with spring water, and there is also a natural-style Kneipp facility.
The outdoor swimming pool’s seasonal opening period is listed as mid-May to mid-September. Opening times and facility details may change; check the latest information before your visit.
At the Hasenbühl-Hocketse, music, sports demonstrations, activities for visitors and culinary specialities come together. Activities and games are planned for children. The specific programme varies from one edition to the next; check the relevant event information when planning your visit.
