Deckenpfronn combines local history and culture with opportunities for hiking and cycling. In the village, the village museum and the Historical Walking Tour offer different ways to explore the past, while hiking tours and several circular cycling routes provide a focus on the outdoors. You can plan your time around whether you prefer to focus on historical sites, cultural events, or outdoor routes.

Village History in the Museum and on the Walking Tour

Since 1987, the Deckenpfronn Village Museum has been housed in the attic floors of the former tithe barn, which was converted into a community center. The listed tithe barn was built in 1807 and has a self-supporting roof structure. This creates a direct connection between the museum and the building: the historic tithe barn is both the site of the village museum and a building with a history of its own.

At the HeiĂź-Kalt Museum, many machines and devices can be set in motion, and children's dolls spin in circles. Digital presentations and audio stations complement the exhibits. This offers a different way to explore local history than the Historical Walking Tour, whose information boards lead to sites in the old village.

The Historical Walking Tour begins at the “Gateway to the Old Village,” right next to the town hall, and leads to 17 sites in the old village. Information boards accompany the route. If you would like to explore local history at several named sites rather than at a single museum, the walking tour provides a clear framework.

Culture in the Kornsaal and during Fasnet

The 150 m² Kornsaal in the tithe barn hosts six to eight cabaret evenings each year as part of the ongoing cultural series “Begegnung in der Zehntscheuer” (Meeting in the Tithe Barn). If you would like to plan an evening around one of these events, check the current schedule before your trip.

Since 2002, the Deckenpfronn Fasnet has been organized by the local carnival guild. It is another local festive occasion. If you would like to include Fasnet in your trip, check the specific event dates.

Hiking and Cycling in Deckenpfronn

The starting point for hiking tours is in front of the Evangelical community center in Deckenpfronn, where an information board and a map are available to help you find your way. There are several circular cycling routes within Deckenpfronn's municipal area. For hiking, the specific starting point helps with navigation, while cyclists can choose from several circular routes. As route conditions, terrain, or access may change, check the current situation before setting out.

One hiking route passes the Egelsee Nature Reserve and follows the glider airfield to the edge of the forest. It also passes the Hohlwiel Celtic burial mound, which lies in a meadow. This route thus combines stretches of countryside with a named burial site.

The Holy Cross memorial cross is a memorial and viewpoint. It is a few minutes' walk from the Egelsee parking lot.
