Radošina Between Cultural History and Landscape
Accommodation in Radošina
Between Inovec and the Hilly Countryside
Radošina lies on the boundary between the Považský Inovec mountain range and the Nitrianska pahorkatina hilly countryside. The slopes of Považský Inovec within the cadastral area are mainly covered with oak and oak-hornbeam forests. This places landscape and cultural history side by side as distinct aspects of a stay in Radošina.
The Považský Inovec Nature Trail
The Považský Inovec Nature Trail runs through the cadastral area of Radošina. The self-guided route can be used in summer and winter, is about 60 kilometres long and includes local branch routes. Its difficulty is rated medium to high. Take its length and difficulty into account when planning your hikes and deciding how far you want to walk.
The trail combines historical and cultural topics with natural science and nature conservation. Those interested in the landscape will therefore find more than just nature-related topics; history and culture are also part of the programme. You can also choose to explore the route through the topics that interest you most.
Churches and Architectural History
The Roman Catholic church in Radošina is dedicated to the Holy Trinity. It was built in the Renaissance style between 1636 and 1644. The projecting tower was added in 1663, and the church was given a Baroque makeover in 1755. The building has a single nave and features a Renaissance barrel vault, a semicircular apse and a sacristy. The tower has a pyramidal roof and an iron cross.
The Chapel of the Holy Cross stands at the entrance to the church grounds. The Renaissance chapel already existed in 1636 and was later given a Baroque makeover; it is also known as the Chapel of Our Lady. The Lourdes Grotto is next to the Church of the Holy Trinity. It is made of karst rock and contains statues of the Virgin Mary and Saint Bernadette, as well as votive plaques. The grotto was consecrated on 22 May 1949.
The Manor House and Theatre History
The manor house in Radošina was built in the second half of the 16th century in the Renaissance style. Since its construction, it has served as a summer residence for the Diocese of Nitra. The two-storey building has four wings, an enclosed courtyard and semicircular corner turrets. Its architecture offers another perspective on the town’s Renaissance history alongside its church buildings.
The Radošinské naivné divadlo also has its origins in Radošina: it was founded in the 1960s, with Stanislav Štepka among its founders. Its first premiere took place on 25 December 1963. The plays “Jááánošííík” (1970) and “Človečina” (1971) premiered at the Radošinské naivné divadlo’s club theatre in Radošina. The Klub mladých building preserves the interior of the theatre’s first stage.
