Biskupová combines a riverside setting with a long local history and the Zbehy–Radošina railway line. If you are looking for a hotel in Biskupová, the landscape, historical forms of the village’s name and railway history offer different ways to understand the destination according to your interests.

Riverside setting in the hilly landscape

Biskupová lies in the central part of the Nitrianska sprašová pahorkatina, the Nitra Loess Hills. The village is also situated on the middle course of the Radošinka, which flows through Biskupová. The river is 31.59 kilometres long in total. These two descriptions of its location use different scales: the landscape name places Biskupová in a wider region, while the reference to the middle course specifies its connection to the river. A regional landscape setting and a position on a river that flows through the village therefore sit side by side.

Local history through names and events

Biskupová’s origins date back to the 13th century. The first written mention dates from 1326, when the village appears as Villa Domini Episcopi Nitriensis. This brings together an early date of origin and a specific first documented reference. Other forms of the name are recorded for later years: Pispeky (1440), Wiskupowa (1773) and Biskupowa (1786); the Hungarian name Püspökfalu is also recorded. The dates help place the different forms of the name in chronological context.

Biskupová belonged to the Diocese of Nitra and was later administered by the Radošina estate. In 1599, Turkish troops burned the village to the ground. The village’s history thus encompasses different themes: recorded names, administrative ties and a pivotal event. If you are interested in the history of a travel destination, you can consider these points as separate milestones rather than reducing them to a single date of origin.

The Zbehy–Radošina railway line: history and current status

The Zbehy–Radošina railway line runs through the hilly landscape of the Nitrianska pahorkatina and follows the course of the Radošinka. Biskupová is one of its stops. The line opened on 26 November 1909. It can therefore be considered in terms of its opening date, its route and the stop in the village.

For travel planning today, passenger services are the key consideration: no regular passenger trains have operated on the line for more than two decades, although the line has been preserved. Check its current operating status before relying on it for a rail journey. This makes it easy to distinguish the historic railway connection from possible travel plans today.

Church and archaeological find

The Church of St Michael the Archangel stands in Biskupová. Another connection to the village concerns the history of discoveries: in 1962, a mastodon lower jaw was recovered at the Biskupová find site. These two details represent different aspects—a building in the village and a natural-history find with a recorded date.
