If you choose Rybník as a destination and are looking for a hotel, you’ll find plenty to shape your day plans: the town’s church and settlement history, nature trails, nature around Krivín and winegrowing all feature prominently. The routes vary considerably in length and time required. When planning, you can decide whether a shorter local nature trail or a longer tour better fits your day.

Church, museum and early settlement history

The Roman Catholic Church of the Most Holy Trinity was built from 1767 to 1771 during the reign of Maria Theresa. Its interior is in the Baroque style. In front of the church is a crypt dating from 1806. It contains the graves of 36 priests, officials of the Svätý Kríž estate and their family members. A memorial plaque at the church also commemorates Benedikt Szöllösi, who was born in Rybník and edited the Slovak hymnbook Cantus Catholici in 1655.

The ethnographic museum Ľudový dom “Na Teplici” offers a different perspective on local history. It documents the life and traditions of the people of Rybník. You must contact the curator in advance to arrange a visit.

The fortified settlement of Nad Hronom is also part of Rybník’s archaeological history. It dates from the Early Bronze Age and was surrounded along its entire perimeter by a rampart built of wood and earth. In the Slovenská brána area, the settlement was an important strategic cultural and trade centre. The church, museum and archaeological site thus offer different ways to explore history: sacred architecture, traditional ways of life and early settlement.

Nature trails with different time requirements

The self-guided Náučný chodník obcou Rybník is a circular walking trail that can be visited year-round and focuses on natural history and local history. It starts at the Železničná–Hlavná intersection and runs through the built-up area of Rybník. The 3.5-kilometre route takes about 1.5 hours, has an elevation difference of 45 metres and includes ten stops.

The Náučný chodník k Hradisku Krivín nature trail requires more time: it starts and ends in Rybník, is six kilometres long and takes about four hours. By comparison, the local nature trail takes less time, while the stated duration of the Krivín route is considerably longer. These are two distinct walking options, with specific route details to help you compare them, without making assumptions about difficulty or walking speed.

Cyclists can also follow a named regional connection: cycle route 5126 runs along the Tlmače–Rybník–Čajkov–Nová Dedina route through the centre of Rybník and onward to the municipality’s highest inhabited areas.

Krivín: nature and archaeological significance

The Krivín Nature Reserve, which is also an archaeological site, lies near Rybník. It protects steep andesite slopes as well as numerous protected, rare and endangered plant and animal species. Hradisko Krivín is also nearby: a landscape of volcanic origin with wooded rocky cliffs above the Hron. The cliffs offer views of the surrounding countryside and the river. Information about the nature reserve and Hradisko Krivín complements the local nature trails with themes of nature and landscape, without requiring the two places to be combined into a single route.

Winegrowing and local festival traditions

Rybník has a winegrowing tradition that is among the oldest of its kind documented in writing in Slovakia. Rybnícke vinobranie is a recurring local grape harvest festival held in the centre of Rybník. If you’d like to coordinate your stay with the festival, check the current dates before making plans. Winegrowing and the festival add another local focus to your stay, alongside the historic sites and trails.
