Pavčina Lehota lies at the entrance to the Demänovská Valley and can be reached by car or bus. If you are travelling by bus, check the timetable for your travel date. Your travel dates and main interests can help you choose a hotel: Pavčina Lehota brings together hiking, protected nature, winter sports and historic buildings. The options vary by activity and season, so you can narrow them down according to your travel plans.

Nature and trails around Pavčina Lehota

The Jelšie nature reserve lies northeast of the village on the floodplain of the Demänovka. It covers 26.10 hectares and is located at approximately 670 to 690 metres above sea level. Jelšie preserves an ash-alder forest community. The woodland consists of coppiced alder, interspersed with spruce and ash trees. The area, approximate elevation and tree composition each describe a different aspect of the nature reserve.

The Dlhý okruh around Pavčina Lehota includes an interesting section along the Jelšie protected area. The Vyhliadková veža v Pavčinej Lehote observation tower offers views of the surrounding landscape. These provide different perspectives on nature: Jelšie represents a protected habitat, the circular route follows a section along the area, and the tower offers views across the surroundings. If you plan your trip around landscape-related interests, you can give each of these aspects the emphasis that suits you.

Hiking and seasonal sports activities

The Náučný turistický chodník Pavčina Lehota educational hiking trail is suitable for hiking. In winter, a cross-country ski trail is groomed along it. The same named trail therefore offers different options for planning a trip: hiking and the specifically winter cross-country ski trail.

Evening skiing on illuminated slopes is possible at the SKI Žiarce ski area, which also has a ski school. Check the availability of these seasonal activities for your dates before travelling. The Sport & Relax Žiarce ski area is located in Pavčina Lehota at the entrance to the Demänovská Valley. It has two downhill ski slopes with a combined length of 1,130 metres and operates seasonally. Among other things, the two areas differ in that evening skiing and a ski school are listed for SKI Žiarce, while the number and combined length of the downhill slopes are specified for Sport & Relax.

Another activity is the Bobová dráha Žiarce bobsled track. It is 1,000 metres long and suitable for adults and children aged seven and over. The operator describes it as the first track of its kind in Slovakia. Since seasonal operating conditions may change, check the current opening hours before planning a visit. You can compare the bobsled track by length and age requirement, while the season and specific winter sports activities are the key considerations for the ski areas.

Historic buildings and archaeological traces

Hradisko, an Iron Age hillfort with ramparts, is located on Mount Opálenisko south of Pavčina Lehota, in the Low Tatras. The nearby Hradisko Zámček, close to Pavčina Lehota, was declared a cultural monument on 27 October 1967. Its northeastern part forms an acropolis and served as a small fortified settlement in the early Middle Ages, in the 13th century.

The wooden bell tower in Pavčina Lehota is also designated a cultural monument. Built in 1883, it is an original log structure with carved sound openings. The archaeological sites and the bell tower offer different points of interest for those interested in cultural history, from the ramparts of the Iron Age Hradisko to the architectural features of the bell tower.
