Liptovský Trnovec combines the Liptovská Mara reservoir with a rich local history. Its cadastral area extends south to the reservoir shore. After the reservoir was built, the village developed into a center for summer leisure tourism. When planning your trip, you can decide whether to focus more on activities on the water or on local cultural history.

At the reservoir: water sports and catamaran rides

Plážové kúpalisko Liptovský Trnovec is located on the reservoir shore and rents out jet skis, motorboats, kayaks, and pedal boats. The lido at the reservoir also offers ideal conditions for sailing and windsurfing. Rental equipment may vary by season; if you have a particular item in mind, check what is currently available in advance.

Loď Mara offers regular catamaran trips for groups of four to 24 people. While the lido rents out various watercraft, Loď Mara focuses on shared catamaran trips. This lets you choose between renting individual watercraft and taking a group trip. Check the schedule and group capacity before your trip.

Churches and historic buildings

The Protestant church in Liptovský Trnovec was built in 1925 on the site of a Toleration church dating from 1784. It contains a commemorative plaque from 1784 and an old altar painting of the Last Supper from the late 18th century; both were transferred from the former Toleration church. The present church building thus combines its own construction date with older memorials from its predecessor.

The Neoclassical Church of the Holy Spirit was built between 1810 and 1820 on the site of a medieval church dating from the early 14th century. Its history therefore differs from that of the Protestant church, which traces its origins to an 18th-century Toleration church. Another historic feature is the 17th-century stone pillory, with chains and shackles on all four sides.

Theater history and cultural heritage

In the first half of the 19th century, Liptovský Trnovec was one of the cultural centers of the Liptov region and an important center of the national revival. The foundations of amateur theater were laid here in 1864. The first direct mention of a theater performance in the village dates from 1865. The dates mark different milestones: 1864 for the beginnings of amateur theater, and 1865 for the first direct mention of a performance.
