Lubela lies in the southern part of the Liptov Basin, in the Kľačianka Valley. The village is located on a floodplain and a glacial fan at the foot of the Low Tatras. When planning your trip, you can look at Lubela from several specific perspectives: as a place set in the landscape, as a stop on a named cycling route, and as a village with distinctive architectural features and cultural events.

Landscape and protected areas

Spruce forest predominates in the southern mountainous part of the area, with meadows in some places. The Kľačianka flows through Lubela and rises in Liptovské Kľačany. The stream adds to the valley and mountain landscape; spruce forests and meadows characterize the mountainous area to the south. There are also mineral springs in the area.

A small part of the Low Tatras National Park extends into the southern edge of the cadastral area, where the third level of protection applies. If you plan to visit sensitive areas, check the current zoning in advance. The geographical distinction is important for orientation: the Kľačianka flows through Lubela, while the national park covers only a very small area at the southern edge of the cadastral area and therefore does not include the entire cadastral area.

A cycling route through Lubela

The blue-marked N2401 educational cycling route from Vlkolínec to Pribylina passes through Lubela. This is a specific point of reference for cyclists: the route has named starting and finishing points and goes through Lubela. If you plan to include this route in your trip, check the current route details in advance.

Village architecture and culture

Lubela has two village bell towers built in different styles. The masonry tower is a simple, whitewashed, square structure with a wooden upper section and a hipped roof. The other is a traditional square wooden structure with an open upper floor and a pyramidal spire. Their materials, roof shapes, and upper-section designs make the differences between the two structures easy to see.

The amateur theatre festival Ľubeľafest takes place in Lubela every July. It is a recurring cultural event in the annual calendar. If the festival is a deciding factor in your trip, check the specific event dates before making plans.

The reconstructed monument to the Slovak National Uprising (SNP) was ceremonially unveiled in front of the cultural centre on April 1, 2026. Another aspect of the area’s history can be found in the Ľubeľská dolina: its crystalline rocks contain antimony mineralization, and there are former mines.

Tennis courts in Lubela

Two tennis courts were ceremonially opened on August 31, 2024. When they opened, they were intended for pupils, young people, the public, and visitors. If tennis is an important reason for your trip, ask in advance whether the courts will be available at your preferred time.
