Liptovsky Jan: Mineral Springs and Culture
Accommodation in Liptovsky Jan
Liptovský Ján combines mineral springs and historic buildings with educational trails and places to visit. If you choose the town for a hotel stay, its various springs, cultural monuments and specific information about routes and visits offer helpful pointers for planning.
Mineral Springs and Educational Trails
The Teplica spring is the only spring in Liptovský Ján used for both drinking and bathing. Its mineral water is 20°C and has proven healing properties. A swimming pool complex has four pools with thermal water from the Rudolf spring. The Teplica and Rudolf springs therefore offer different ways to enjoy mineral and thermal water.
The educational trail to the Medokýš mineral spring connects Liptovská Porúbka, Liptovský Ján and Liptovský Hrádok. Along the way, six information panels provide details about biodiversity, the history of the surrounding municipalities and traditional activities. Nature and local history are thus explored together on this trail, with the municipal boundaries defining the route’s geographical scope.
Manor Houses, Church and Local History
Sixteen manor houses from the original group still stand in the historic centre of Liptovský Ján. The Roman Catholic Church of St. John the Baptist was built in the Gothic style and received the “Cultural Monument of the Year” award in 2023. Together, the manor houses and the church offer different insights into the town’s architectural heritage.
The Svätojánske Museum features an exhibition about the Sentiványi family of Liptovský Ján. There is also an exhibition in an original house next to the Church of St. John the Baptist on the edge of town. These exhibition and architectural sites are in different parts of the town and can be visited as separate stops when exploring its history.
Valley, Cave and Other Places to Visit
The Jánska dolina valley begins in the spa town of Liptovský Ján. The Brána do Jánskej doliny educational trail starts beside the car park at the Liptovský dvor resort in Jánska dolina near Liptovský Ján.
The Stanišovská Cave is 410 metres long; a visit takes approximately 45 to 60 minutes. It is explored without electric lighting, using a headlamp and accompanied by an experienced guide. For planning, both the approximate duration and the type of visit are important.
Park Mini Slovensko has a garden railway, with trains running on several tracks. A miniature theme park displays detailed models of Slovak cultural monuments at a scale of 1:25. At an exhibition, visitors can also use original tools and equipment to crush ore, wash it in sluices, work it in forges and then mint coins. The attractions are quite distinct: a garden railway, architectural models and hands-on insights into ore processing are all on offer.
