Višňové: Hiking, Karst and Cultural Heritage
Accommodation in Višňové
Višňové lies in the Žilina Basin at the foothills of the Lúčanská Malá Fatra. The village stretches for almost four kilometres along the Rosinka stream through a valley; higher parts offer open views of the Žilina Basin. The Višňovská dolina is known for its karst features and has a spring. At 1,364 metres, Minčol defines the surrounding area. Višňové thus brings together valley and mountain landscapes with cultural and historical landmarks.
Mountain Trails, Climbing and Cycling
The best-known route up Minčol starts in Višňové, is marked blue and is accessible year-round. Hoblík is a 934-metre-high mountain in the Malá Fatra between Višňové and Stráňavy. The ascent can take you along a short via ferrata with two difficulty levels; the ferrata can also be bypassed. If you plan to use it, check the conditions before setting out.
There are also climbing walls in the Višňovská dolina. For cyclists, the first section of the Rajecká cyklomagistrála is relevant: it runs from Rosina via Višňové to Turie along an asphalt road. There are ungroomed cross-country skiing trails. As their operating status and trail conditions may change, check whether they are usable before planning your trip.
Getting There and Finding Your Way
The Višňové, konečná bus stop can be reached by bus routes from Žilina. It is worth checking the timetable for your travel day. At the end of Višňové, before the barrier at the entrance to the Višňovská dolina, there is a car park. Its capacity may vary at weekends; take this into account when planning.

The Žulový kríž was consecrated on 27 June 1937 and stands on a rise beside the field road to the neighbouring municipality of Stráňavy, between majestic linden trees. The oldest record of the venerated statue in Višňové dates from 1674.

Fatima celebrations are held regularly on the 13th day of each month. If a celebration is important to your travel plans, check the exact date in advance.
