Lieskovec offers several distinct starting points for planning a trip: early settlement traces at Hrádok, the historic bell tower, the landscape of the Zvolen Basin and a named hiking route. The area also has mineral springs. If you are looking for a hotel in Lieskovec, it helps to first decide which themes you want to shape your stay. History, nature and architecture each offer a different focus.

Archaeological Traces and Local History

The Hrádok archaeological site contains the remains of a hillfort. Finds there date from the Eneolithic, the Bronze Age, the Roman Imperial period, and the Early and High Middle Ages. Pottery from the Baden culture shows that settlement in the cadastral area of Lieskovec is considerably older than the written record. The first documented written mention of the cadastral area dates to 1263 and appears in a charter issued by King Béla IV. Archaeological evidence and written records therefore sit side by side, but mark different historical reference points: the charter is the first written record, not the beginning of settlement.

The Bell Tower as a Landmark

Lieskovec’s present-day landmark is its bell tower, which dates from 1866. The building is late Neoclassical, built of masonry and square in plan. Compared with the archaeological traces of the past at Hrádok, the bell tower represents a much later historical layer. Early settlement and a 19th-century building thus represent different chapters in the local history.

Landscape and Regional Context

The cadastral area of Lieskovec covers 1,389 hectares and extends across the Zvolen Basin. The Poľana volcanic mountain range shapes the basin’s panorama. The area around Lieskovec has numerous valleys and dense forests rich in fauna and flora. The basin panorama and the surrounding valleys offer different perspectives on the landscape.

Administratively, Lieskovec belongs to the Banská Bystrica Self-Governing Region and the Zvolen District. Culturally, it is part of the Podpoľanie ethnographic region. This context adds the administrative and cultural area to which Lieskovec belongs to the picture of its individual sights.

Hiking Trail and Mineral Springs

The Sliač–Lieskovec–Slatinka tourist hiking trail is one of the hiking options in the area and passes through Lieskovec. While the valleys and forests describe the wider natural area, the named trail offers a specific option for hiking enthusiasts.

There are three mineral springs in the Lieskovec area. Check the condition of each spring before using it. Medokýš is located in an acacia grove in the Medokýšne valley. This cold, hypotonic, naturally carbonated spring has an elevated silicic acid content; local residents use it for drinking. Another Medokýš spring in the municipality does not meet microbiological standards. Therefore, check the condition of the particular spring before using it.
