Tŕnie – between cultural heritage and mountain landscapes
Accommodation in Tŕnie
Tŕnie lies in the Turovské predhorie subregion of the Kremnické vrchy. The village’s notable features include the Church of St. Martin, other traces of its history, and natural landmarks such as Padalo Waterfall and Piesky Ridge. If you are looking for a hotel for a stay in Tŕnie, these cultural and landscape features can help you consider the destination in light of your interests.
Church of St. Martin and the village’s history
The Church of St. Martin stands on a slight rise in the northwest of Tŕnie. It is Gothic, and a Gothic rib vault is preserved in the sacristy. A richly moulded Gothic portal is located on the south side of the old nave. The vault and portal are two distinct architectural features of the same building: one is in the sacristy, the other on the old nave. The church is in good condition and serves its religious purpose.
The oldest document relating to Tŕnie is a charter issued by King Ladislaus IV in 1285. The Trňan folk group was founded in 1971. The two dates represent distinct cultural reference points: the written history of the village and the founding of a folk group.
Cultural monuments and rural architecture
Tŕnie’s cultural heritage also includes the Chapel of St. Vendelin. In Kašová Lehôtka, a wooden bell tower has two bells, one of which dates from 1667. The wooden bell tower in the Hrabiny district is designated as an immovable cultural monument. The two towers therefore have different features worth highlighting: the bells and their date in Kašová Lehôtka, and the monument designation in Hrabiny.
A farmhouse with an adjoining farm building in Kašová Lehôtka adds to the area’s rural architectural history. It was originally a three-room building and is used for recreation. “Three-room” refers to its original layout of three rooms. Together with the church, chapel and bell towers, the farmhouse shows that the area’s cultural features are not limited to religious buildings.
Padalo Waterfall and views from Piesky Ridge
Padalo is a waterfall in a gorge that emerges at the northern edge of Tŕnie. The waterfall is about 12 metres high and lies on an andesite bedrock. Its height is approximate; andesite identifies the geological substrate. Padalo can therefore be described in terms of both its dimensions and its landscape characteristics.
From Piesky Ridge, broad views extend west over almost the entire cadastral area of Železná Breznica. To the east, the view takes in the areas of Tŕnie and Turová, and farther afield Zvolen, Sliač and other places. The views are thus described in two clearly defined directions: west across one cadastral area, and east across several areas and places.
Cave and route information
A small cave in Farský jarok served as a refuge for local residents during the early period of settlement. It is difficult to access. This natural site therefore combines a historical function with a practical consideration for trip planning.
For access through the gorge to the waterfall, a description published on 17 February 2024 mentions chains to hold on to at difficult sections. It also mentions a marked forest trail leading to a point above the waterfall. Water and winter weather can change conditions, so check them before visiting.
