Dubové brings together several specific themes for a stay: Barborská cesta passes through the village, the Evangelical church represents its architectural history, and home-style cooking, crafts and folk songs offer insights into life in earlier times. The themes appeal to different interests: the route gives your stay a hiking focus, while the church and local history offer cultural points of interest. If you are looking for a hotel for a trip combining hiking and cultural interests, these themes can help you choose a destination.

Local history dating back to the 13th century

Dubové was first mentioned in 1255 as terra Duboudyl. That same year, the village passed from the estate of Zvolen Castle to Bertold (Pertold), a castle stonemason, as a gift from Béla IV. Thus, 1255 was both the year of its first mention and the year of the gift. This gift directly links Zvolen Castle and Bertold, a castle stonemason, to Dubové’s early history.

The Evangelical church in Dubové

The Evangelical church in Dubové is Neoclassical and was built in 1866–1867. Its furnishings include an altar, a baptismal font and a pulpit dating from 1866; the bells date from 1868 and 1921. The church stands on a rise northeast of the village center. It is in good condition and continues to serve its religious purpose.

Barborská cesta through Dubové

Barborská cesta passes over Sedlo Volárska to Dubové. In the village, the route leads to the agricultural cooperative buildings at the entrance and continues towards Bacúrov. The section from Dubové runs along the edge of a lightly trafficked paved road. This distinguishes the trail over the saddle from its continuation beside the road. Check current trail conditions before setting out.

Home-style cooking, crafts and folk songs

Traditional home cooking in Dubové included Mrvenica, Halušky, potato soup, and cabbage with meat. These dishes complement the architectural and local history with a glimpse of everyday life in earlier times. The cultural heritage also includes the folk songs collected under the title “Ľudové piesne z Dubového”; alongside the architecture, they give the village’s traditions a musical dimension.

Traditional household crafts included making or maintaining rakes, pitchforks, brooms and tool handles. Birchwood brooms were sold in Zvolen and Banská Štiavnica. Historically, each item cost between 80 heller and 1 Kč. Beekeeping was practiced on a small scale in Dubové; it was particularly well established there in the 18th and 19th centuries.
