Discover Slampe: Culture, remembrance and swimming
Accommodation in Slampe
Slampe offers several different points of interest for planning a trip: the Slampes KultÅ«ras pils with its cultural groups, the āZelta jostaā memorial stone in the center, and a bathing area by a village pond. Culture, remembrance and time by the water are distinct themes. If you choose a destination based on specific interests, you can consider the places and their respective focuses separately.
Culture at the Slampes Kultūras pils
The Slampes KultÅ«ras pils opened on 23 December 1978. It is home to 13 amateur arts groups, involving children, young people, middle-aged adults and seniors. The number of groups may change over time. The range of age groups gives an idea of how broad the amateur arts program in Slampe is. The folklore group āPÅ«rsā has been active since 1987. The opening of the center and the activity of āPÅ«rsā mark two different dates in local cultural history: 1978 for the center and 1987 for the group. The āZelta rudensā seniorsā association at the Slampes KultÅ«ras pils also takes part in every event held there. This offers different cultural themes to consider when planning a trip: events at the center and the long-standing folklore work of āPÅ«rsā.
āZelta jostaā memorial stone
The āZelta jostaā memorial stone was unveiled in the center of Slampe on 14 June 2015. It bears the names of 100 residents of Slampe who were affected by the deportations of 14 June 1941 and 25 March 1949, as well as by the Holocaust. The inscription links personal names with specific historical events and makes the memorialās local significance clear. In Latvian folklore, the āZelta jostaā belt motif symbolizes protection. The memorial stone thus brings together historical remembrance and a traditional symbol of protection.
Bathing area by the central pond
The bathing area by Slampeās central pond is located beside one of the village ponds, next to the TukumsāJelgava road. It is accessible by car and has a small parking area. Facilities include a changing cabin, two benches and waste bins. This information can help you plan a visit to the water as part of your day. As local conditions, facilities and parking options may change, check the current situation before your visit.
A market at the Slampes pagasts festival
A market was held next to the Slampes Kultūras pils during the Slampes pagasts festival on 2 August 2025, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Entrepreneurs, home producers and farmers took part, offering their own products. If visiting a market is important to your trip, check whether an event has been announced for your travel dates.
