Slavkov Pod Hostýnem: Pilgrimage, Nature and Trails
Accommodation in Slavkov Pod Hostýnem
Slavkov Pod Hostýnem brings together historical landmarks, a natural monument, trails and an annual running event. If you are looking for a hotel for your stay, you can choose how to explore the town based on whether you are more interested in local architectural history, a pilgrimage tradition, or activities on foot, by bike or, in winter, on cross-country skis. Different aspects come together in the town centre, within the cadastral area and along the routes to Svatý Hostýn.
Bell Tower, Chapel and Cross
A bell tower built in 1833 stands in the centre of Slavkov Pod Hostýnem. A wooden bell tower dating from 1765 previously stood on the same site. This gives a clear picture of the building sequence at one location: the older wooden structure was followed by the tower built in 1833. A Marian Chapel (Kaple P. Marie) is located within the cadastral area, above the village at the edge of the forest. An iron cross dating from 1896 is also located within the cadastral area. While the bell tower links two dates in the site’s architectural history, the chapel and cross add to the area’s religious heritage.
PP Stráň Natural Monument
PP Stráň is a protected natural monument within the cadastral area of Slavkov Pod Hostýnem. It is a grassy slope with scattered lime trees and groups of pine trees. The protected area can therefore be described both by its terrain and its specific vegetation.
Nature Trail and Ways to Get Around
The Hostýnské vrchy Nature Trail is 16.6 km long and has 11 stations. You can walk or cycle along it; in winter, cross-country skiing is also possible. Its length and number of stations offer different ways to orient yourself: the distance indicates its extent, while the stations divide the trail into individual points. The season is also a factor when choosing an activity, as cross-country skiing is specifically intended for winter. You can therefore consider the trail’s length, number of stations and seasonal ways of getting around together when planning your visit.
Cycling Connections Around the Town
Cyclists can also choose between two different connections. The cycle route from Holešov to Svatý Hostýn passes through Slavkov Pod Hostýnem. At the edge of the town, a cycle path connects it with Bystřice pod Hostýnem; the connection is beyond the last houses. The first description refers to a route through the town, while the second refers to a connection on its outskirts.
Svatý Hostýn and the Pilgrimage Run
The pilgrimage site of Svatý Hostýn is 3.4 km on foot from Slavkov Pod Hostýnem; the distance may vary depending on the walking route you choose. The Slavkovský poutní běh takes place every year before the pilgrimage of the municipality of Slavkov Pod Hostýnem to Svatý Hostýn and follows the route of the traditional pilgrimage to Svatý Hostýn and back. The walking distance gives an idea of the pilgrimage site’s location, while the run provides an annual link to the municipal pilgrimage. Check the date of the relevant event before your trip if you would like to plan around the run.
