Vrbka offers several distinct interests to consider when planning a trip: routes through gently rolling terrain, nature in the Natura 2000 area, and cultural history. The educational trail combines exercise with religious monuments; Tabarky and the Alois Otýpka Rural Museum add further historical highlights. You can decide whether a route, the natural area, or local history should be the focus of your trip.

The Educational Trail to Religious Monuments

The “Po sakrálních památkách obce Vrbka” educational trail is 8.7 km long, including the section to Tabarky. It runs through gently rolling terrain along local roads and farm tracks and has eleven stops at memorial crosses and holy images. These details combine a clear distance with a religious and cultural theme. For planning purposes, you can consider the length and the type of route separately: the number of kilometres describes the distance, while roads and farm tracks describe the route’s character. The stops also make clear what the educational trail focuses on.

Tabarky and the Natural Area

The early medieval Tabarky burial mound field adds a distinct historical highlight. Today, 15 burial mounds are visible there; 42 have been identified across the site in total. These figures do not contradict one another: they distinguish the mounds visible today from the total number identified in the area. Together, they offer two different points of reference for understanding the burial mound field.

The Vrbka Natura 2000 area comprises semi-natural dry grasslands and scrub formations on calcareous soils. It is home to numerous rare plant, animal, and fungal species. This gives the natural theme specific contours: alongside the habitat types, rare species from several groups are part of the area’s character. If you are interested in nature, you can consider these aspects alongside the educational trail’s cultural focus.

Local History and Crafts at the Museum

The Alois Otýpka Rural Museum was founded in 1998 in House No. 54 in Vrbka by local collector and expert on local history Alois Otýpka. Its exhibition presents the oldest history of Vrbka. It also features objects from local crafts, including tools used to process flax and hemp. The museum therefore brings together both a historical perspective on the village and specific examples of craftwork.

Tabarky and the museum offer distinctly different cultural history experiences: as an early medieval burial mound field, Tabarky is an archaeological point of interest. The museum brings together Vrbka’s earliest history and objects from local crafts. The subject matter thus ranges from burial mounds to tools for processing flax and hemp.

By Bike or on Horseback

The routes are also worth distinguishing clearly. Cycling route No. 5017 passes through Vrbka and runs from Halenkovice, U svatých, to Kula. A red-marked circular horse-riding route also passes through Vrbka. The cycling route therefore has specified endpoints, while the riding route is described as a loop. Before navigating, check the cycling route’s course and the riding route’s course and markings again. This will help you match each route description to the appropriate activity.
