Lechotice: Village History and Excursions
Accommodation in Lechotice
Lechotice lies at the southern foothills of the Hostýnské vrchy, below the wooded slopes of the Zlínská vrchovina. The village is located on the border between the Kroměřížsko and Zlínsko regions. When planning your visit, you can focus on different things: the village’s history and cultural sites, or excursion destinations in the countryside.
Village History around Dědina
The village square, “Dědina,” brings together several defining features of the local streetscape. Of the once-impressive farmsteads, only two remain in their original form. A picturesque brick bell tower is the square’s landmark building. In front of it stands a monument, erected in 1921, to soldiers who fell in the First World War. The bell tower and monument are surrounded by a green space and seating in a peaceful setting. Here, the village streetscape, remembrance, and a quiet place to spend time come together.
The former village school is also part of the village’s history. The building was constructed in 1868. After a new school was built in 1912, the former school became a forge and the family home of František Karlík. The sequence of uses—from school to forge to family home—brings the building’s changing history to life.
Two depictions of the Virgin Mary offer additional, distinct landmarks. The depiction of the Virgin Mary of Svatý Hostýn stands by the pond in Lechotice, on the road towards Mysločovice. Another depiction of the Virgin Mary is located in the southeastern part of the older settlement. For orientation, the different locations of the two depictions are especially useful to note.
Traditions and Dates
Staré hanácké právo has been preserved in its traditional form in the eastern Hanakian villages of Sazovice, Mysločovice, Lechotice, Racková, and Machová. This makes it possible to consider the tradition in a wider context beyond Lechotice, rather than reducing it to a single local feature.
Bartolomějské hody is held regularly in Lechotice in August. Exact dates and the programme may change, so check the latest event information before your trip. This lets you plan your visit around a specific festival date rather than the month alone.
Excursions and Countryside
Lechotice has an excursion area with a dance floor. Another destination is the Na Strážné observation tower: the “From Lechotice to the Na Strážné Observation Tower” route goes from Lechotice to the tower and back; the round trip is 3.6 km long. This distance gives you a concrete idea of the length of the outing. Route conditions and access details may change, so check them before setting out.
The Žídelná stream flood basin lies beyond Lechotice in the direction of Racková and is a popular destination for cyclists. The retention basin also offers the opportunity to observe water birds and wildlife around the basin. The flood basin therefore offers a different focus from the architectural and village history around Dědina: here, the water, birds, and landscape around the basin take centre stage.
The Tour de Žídelná also has a checkpoint in Lechotice. Along with the festival held regularly in August and the excursion destinations described above, this offers a range of options for your stay: historic village streetscapes, a specific outing to the observation tower, or an excursion focused on nature.
