Mrlínek: Local History, Sport and Nature
Accommodation in Mrlínek
Mrlínek offers several different points of interest to help you plan your trip: an early mention of the village, a local legend, sports facilities and places to enjoy the outdoors. The topics range from history and local events to Obecní rybník by the Bažantnice forest. If you would like to give your stay a particular focus, the named facilities and traditions offer a concrete impression of the different sides of the village.
Local History and Traditions
Mrlínek, formerly known as Mrlín, was first mentioned in 1301. Local tradition includes the legend “Jak v Mrlínku mazali Zemskou osu”. It is recorded in a local chronicle that has been kept since 1927. A historical name and a storytelling tradition therefore stand side by side: the first mention points to the village’s history, while the legend belongs to its local folklore.
Sports Facilities and Outdoor Activities
The Lukostřelecké cvičiště has ten archery targets at distances of 25 to 100 metres and is managed by the Mrlínek Archery Club. The Kynologické cvičiště is located at the entrance to the village and has facilities for dog training, as well as a clubhouse for 30 people. The two facilities have clearly different purposes: one focuses on archery, the other on dog training.
The Fotbalový stadion is located in the Pod Duby nature area and has a stand for 100 spectators. Areál Pod Duby is set in a natural amphitheatre and has a dance floor and shelters for musical performances. The football stadium and Areál thus offer different ways to engage with local sport and events.
There are two asphalt courts for tennis or volleyball. Use can be arranged with the local tennis section. This is useful to know when planning a visit specifically for the courts: rather than simply describing the facilities, this also explains how their use can be arranged.
Events in Mrlínek
The “O pohár zemské osy” football tournament is a long-standing event in Mrlínek. Another event held every year is “Pytlácká noc”, organised by the local hunting association. The programme includes an evening dance, a raffle and refreshments. The two events therefore differ in their stated focus: “O pohár zemské osy” centres on a football tournament in both name and format, while “Pytlácká noc” features dancing and socialising. If your trip is tied to an event, check the dates in advance.
Pond, Forest and Historic Memorials
Obecní rybník is located before the entrance to the Bažantnice forest, alongside a path that continues to Bystřice. The pond helps retain water in the landscape and is also a habitat for birds. Its location by the path and its stated functions combine a useful outdoor landmark with an ecological role in the landscape.
The stone wayside cross Kříž naproti žalovu stands near Mrlínek. It was erected in 1897 by local residents František and Petronela Vávrovi. Mrlínek’s local cemetery was established in 1938 on a hill, about 250 metres from the village’s last houses. The cross has a recorded construction year and named donors; for the cemetery, its year of establishment, hillside location and approximate distance provide useful orientation. Together, these places add different memorials to the village’s history.
