Loukov – Church, Cycling Routes and Countryside
Accommodation in Loukov
Loukov offers several concrete points of interest for planning a trip: the Baroque Church of St. Wenceslas, walking and cycling routes, and countryside where woodland gives way to fields. If you are looking for a hotel in Loukov, you can first consider whether local history, outdoor activities or the rural character will shape your stay. This makes it easy to match your travel focus to the themes of the village.
Church and Local History
The first written records of Loukov date from the first half of the 14th century. Another historical landmark is the Baroque Church of St. Wenceslas, built in 1679. It stands on a gentle rise in the northeastern part of Loukov. These two facts represent different historical perspectives: the early record refers to the village, while 1679 refers to the building. They are therefore not interchangeable when considering the area’s cultural history: the earlier date concerns Loukov’s written records, while 1679 is the date of the church.
Countryside and Notable Places
Loukov lies where woodland gives way to fields, in the foothills of Kelčský Javorník in the Hostýnské vrchy. In the wider region, Kelčský Javorník is the highest mountain in the Hostýnské vrchy, at 868 metres. Two scales of landscape are therefore present: the local transition between woodland and fields, and the broader landscape of the Hostýnské vrchy. The “Dub” memorial oak is approximately 400 years old and marks the cadastral boundary between Loukov and Libosváry. While Kelčský Javorník provides a reference point for the regional landscape, the oak is a specific local boundary marker.
Walking and Cycling Routes
There are hiking trails directly in Loukov. Cyclists can choose from several routes: cycle route No. 5037 runs from Chvalčov to Loukov, and a newly built cycle path connects Loukov with its district of Libosváry. The circular route through Loukov and Libosváry is approximately 20 kilometres long and returns to Bystřice pod Hostýnem. When planning, you can distinguish between walking routes in the village and cycling routes with different destinations. The circular route also has an approximate length and a named return destination. Libosváry appears in two distinct local contexts: as the destination of the cycle path and as the place on the other side of the cadastral boundary marked by the memorial oak.
Getting There and Local Activities
One route leads to Loukov railway station; from there, you can take trains towards Kroměříž or Valašské Meziříčí. Check the timetable for your travel date if you plan to use this connection. The village also has a sports complex with a tennis court. Farma Loukov offers goat cheese and cold kefir made from goat’s and cow’s milk. If you would like to buy these products directly from the farm, you can do so by prior arrangement.
