Nová Dědina: Bell, Cross and Marked Trails
Accommodation in Nová Dědina
Nová Dědina combines local history with marked trails. The entire area lies in the Chřiby Nature Park. This gives travelers two distinct interests to choose from: historic objects and trails for different kinds of activity. If you are looking for a hotel for your stay, you can first decide whether the history of the place or a tour should be the main focus. Local topics offer concrete points of interest for both.
Cultural History in Nová Dědina
The “Obecní zvon” bell now hangs in the belfry at the cemetery in Nová Dědina. It was cast in 1839 at the workshop of Leopold František Stanke in Olomouc. The bronze object is 43 centimeters tall and has a lower diameter of 49 centimeters. These two measurements describe different aspects of the bell: its height and the diameter at its lower edge. Together with the year it was made and the name of the workshop, they provide a concrete insight into its history and form.
Another named object is the “Sukovitý kříž.” It bears a black cast-iron corpus of Christ and is also called the “černý kříž” (“black cross”) by local people. The material of the corpus and the local name are distinctive details of the cross. Together with the bell, it provides another point of interest for anyone interested in the cultural history of the place.
A new wooden “Dřevěný kříž” was erected in 1862 in the center of Nová Dědina, in front of house No. 7, and was later replaced. Its erection and later replacement therefore describe two distinct phases in its history.
Marked Trails and Routes
The “Stezka Nové Dědiny” is 6.9 kilometers long and marked in yellow. The marked trails of the “Stezky Branou do Chřibů” project also pass through Nová Dědina. They are intended for hiking, running, Nordic walking and mountain biking. For your choice, this means you can assess the “Stezka Nové Dědiny” by its length and marking, and the trail network by the activities it accommodates. Check trail conditions before your tour, as they may change.
Near Tabarky, an educational trail leads to a clearing where the burial mounds are still clearly visible. There is a large local parking area on the road toward Nová Dědina, near Tabarky. On the route from Tabarky, a paved road marked as a cycling route joins the way at the Nová Dědina tourist shelter near a crossroads. The clearing with the burial mounds and the shelter where the cycling route connects serve as distinct landmarks.
