Blazice brings together a late Baroque church, historical milestones and practical travel information to help you plan your trip. The first written mention dates back to 1358; another cultural connection is the student Leoš Janáček's visit in the 1860s. If you are looking for a hotel in Blazice, these topics can help you tailor your destination to your interests.

Church and architecture

The Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross was built in 1788. It is a late Baroque, single-nave building. Three bays with so-called Prussian vaults lead into a rectangular presbytery and a sacristy.

The terms describe different aspects: late Baroque identifies the style, while single-nave describes the layout. Bays divide the building, while the presbytery and sacristy are further architectural elements. This allows the style, layout and spatial arrangement to be distinguished; the year 1788, in turn, answers the question of when it was built.

Janáček and local history

In the 1860s, the student Leoš Janáček visited his uncle, the local priest, in Blazice. During these stays, Janáček liked to play the organ in the church. This biographical connection came considerably later than the construction of the church: Janáček's visits took place more than seven decades after 1788. The building's history and its personal connection to the place thus offer two different ways of exploring the church.

At the time of Blazice's first written mention in 1358, it had a mill and a farmstead. Rácov has a different historical connection: from 1460 onward, Rácov and its farmstead were mentioned only as deserted. The dates refer to different places: 1358 is the first written mention of Blazice, while from 1460 Rácov is recorded as deserted. This distinction helps keep the two historical references separate.

A much more recent commemorative milestone is the plaque to CLAY-EVA, unveiled in Blazice on September 1, 2018. The dates mark different aspects of local history: an early written mention, a later mention as deserted, and the unveiling of a memorial plaque.

A regional strategic plan for 2007–2013 describes the marked cycling route 6137. According to the plan, it passes through Helfštýn, Dolní Nětčice, Soběchleby, Simře and Žákovice on its way to Blazice; at Helfštýn, it connects to the Jantarová stezka long-distance cycling route. The two places have different roles in the route: Blazice is the destination of the sequence, while the connection to the long-distance cycling route is at Helfštýn. If you plan to use the route, check its current condition and signage before setting out.

Blazice is also served by bus routes; check the timetables separately before travelling. Different information matters depending on your mode of transport: bus timetables for bus travel, and route conditions and signage for cycling.
