Oznice can be explored through individual traces of local history and clearly described routes. These include a protected bell tower, crosses and monuments, as well as the private Oznička lookout tower. For outings, there is also a yellow-marked route about 13.5 kilometres long and a 45-kilometre cycling loop. If you are looking for a hotel in Oznice, these different points of interest can help with your planning: local history, views or a tour with a set route.

History at specific places

At Forajtka stands a protected wooden bell tower with two bells; one of them dates from 1737. Its location also tells a story of change: after the First World War, the bell tower was moved to its current site. It originally stood by house number 15, belonging to the Hrabovský family in Lípí. The building at Forajtka is thus connected with its former location in Lípí.

Near the municipal office, a stone cross stands beside the road that runs through Oznice. It was erected in 1906 at the expense of the Zetek couple. At the Píšková saddle, a simple stone monument to T. G. Masaryk stands in a grassy clearing. Ornamental shrubs and young lime trees shape its immediate surroundings. The two places have different points of emphasis: one is a cross with a known year of construction, the other a monument in a clearing at the saddle.

On the slope above Oznice is a restored partisan bunker, reconstructed in 1980. There, partisan Augustin Bártek from Brňov lost his life on 1 March 1945 while fighting German police forces. Another historical marker is a sandstone block on the ridge at the cadastral boundary between Oznice and Banky, near the Na pasekách area. Its inscription reads “Kaiser Franz Josefs - Hohe 1898” and commemorates Emperor Franz Joseph I's stay in 1898.

On the ridge of the Hostýnské vrchy, at the boundary between Oznice and Branky, a simple wooden wayside shrine with an image of the Virgin Mary stands near the homestead at Mrnuštíků. It is situated between two mature lime trees and has a roof and a statue of the Virgin Mary. A Pentecost Mass is held at Mrnuštíků in May. If you plan to attend the Mass, check the exact date in advance.

The history of the village also includes traditional crafts: residents earned extra money by weaving brooms and making Wallachian shoes, carts, sledges, wooden tools and other wooden objects. These activities add another perspective on life in Oznice in the past, alongside its buildings and historical landmarks.

Oznička: views and access

The private wooden Oznička lookout tower is almost eight metres high and stands above Oznice in the Hostýnské vrchy. It has been there since 2019; its viewing platform opened to the public in 2023. The tower is freely accessible, and visitors climb it at their own risk. As it is a private structure, check access before your visit.

The covered platform is five metres above the ground. From there, you can look out over the neighbouring settlement and the surrounding hills, which are characterised by pastures. In good visibility, the summit of Radhošť in the Beskydy Mountains can also be seen through an opening to the northeast. The view therefore connects the nearby area with a panorama of the wider landscape.

Oznička is on the route between Mikulůvka and Oznice. The approach from Oznice follows a steeply ascending route about 1,200 metres long up to a saddle. For the final 200 metres, a mountain bike is more suitable than a road bike.

Marked routes and cycling loop

A yellow-marked route about 13.5 kilometres long runs through the eastern foothills of the Hostýnské vrchy. Along the way, there are numerous panoramic views of nearby ridges and the opposite Vsetínské vrchy. The route starts at the Oznice ČSAD bus stop and runs via Kuželek, Lázy, Háje, Pod Chladnou and U Holáňů to the bridge in Pržno. The route makes both the starting point and destination clear, while the viewpoints define its connection with the landscape.

Another option for planning a cycling trip is the 45-kilometre “Na Kelečský zámek z Valmezu” cycling loop. It runs from Valašské Meziříčí via Poličná, Branky, Kelč, Kunovice, Loučka, Podolí, Oznice, Mikulůvka and Jarcová, and back to Valašské Meziříčí. The loop is suitable for e-bikes, gravel bikes and mountain bikes.

The markings through Oznice are also described: the loop follows cycling route 6220 towards Oznice and through the village. From the “Nad Oznicí” junction, it continues along a yellow-marked route; afterwards, it switches to a green-marked route. The two tours therefore differ in specific ways in length, route and destination: the yellow-marked route ends at the bridge in Pržno, while the cycling loop returns to Valašské Meziříčí after passing through several settlements.
