Glassmaking history and museum
The Muzeum sklářství Karolinka opened to visitors on 16 August 2014, offering them the opportunity to discover the skill and artistry of master glassmakers. Check the latest visitor information before your visit. The museum gallery is open to visitors and displays paintings by Valašsko artists Jiljí Hartinger, Karel Hofman and František Podešva. The works depict master glassmakers, glass production, life at the glassworks and Karolinka.
The Karolinina huť glassworks was established in 1861–1862 by entrepreneur Salomon Reich on the eastern edge of Nový Hrozenkov. Its products included cut glass and cylinders for kerosene lamps; major markets included Vienna and Galicia.
Church and folk architecture
The Kostel Panny Marie Karmelské church was built between 1994 and 1997. Pope John Paul II consecrated its cornerstone in Olomouc on 21 May 1995. A prominent feature of the church interior is an altar with a 253-centimetre-high wooden statue of the Virgin Mary by carver Ladislav Borák. There is also a mosaic by Juraj Begany, SVD.
In the Raťkov district, the rodový shluk Orságů includes a farmstead dating from 1831. The complex is considered an exceptionally valuable example of folk architecture from the first half of the 19th century. The Chalupy Pod šenkem čp. 285 property in Karolinka-Raťkov was named Folk Building of the Year for the Zlín Region in 2021.
Cycling and hiking
The 56.8-kilometre Vsetínská Bečva route runs from Velké Karlovice to Valašské Meziříčí, passing through Karolinka along the way. Most of the route follows a cycle path closed to motor traffic. Karolinka is also a starting point and a tourist centre for marked hiking trails.
Ski resort and summer activities
The Karolinka ski resort is on the edge of the town, in a valley between the ridges of the Vsetínské vrchy and Javorníky mountains. Its ski slope is 1,000 metres long. Facilities include a regularly groomed snow park, which is also suitable for snowboarding, and night skiing.
In summer, the area offers children several types of trampolines, the inflatable Bumperball and Aquaroller attractions, pedal boats for the youngest visitors, and disc golf. As operations and summer activities are seasonal, check the ski resort’s latest information before your visit.
