Bystřička offers several distinct highlights to help you plan your trip: the reservoir, the rocky landscape of Klenov and historic traces. If you are looking for a hotel in Bystřička, you can first decide whether to focus on spending time by the water, taking a tour along the nature trail or exploring the cultural character of the place.

Reservoir and Beach

The Bystřička waterworks are a cultural monument of the Czech Republic. They were declared a cultural monument in 2003 because of their unique architectural and urban design and technical facilities. The reservoir is one of the oldest in the Czech Republic and the oldest in the Morava River basin upstream of its confluence with the Dyje.

At the reservoir’s main beach, the ground is partly grassy and partly sandy, and the entry into the water slopes gently. Boats and paddleboards can be rented near the main beach. Rentals may be available seasonally; if you are counting on using them, check availability before your visit.

Rock Formations and the Klenov Nature Trail

The Klenov massif features large, impressive sandstone and conglomerate rock formations, some of which are interpreted as frost cliffs. Specific formations include a narrow gorge, a small fissure cave and rock ledges. The rock window is 165 cm long and 35 cm wide.

The Klenov nature trail is 7 km long and has ten information panels about the geological, botanical and zoological features of the Javorníky Mountains. It starts at the Bystřička Reservoir and follows the blue hiking trail markers to a viewpoint near the nature reserve below Mount Klenov. It continues to the rocky summit of Zámčisko, the turnoff to the Svantovítovy Rocks and the Louky pod Štípou Natural Monument. In summer, the nature trail is suitable for hikers and mountain bikers; in winter, it is also suitable for cross-country skiers. As trail conditions can vary, check them before setting out.

Cycling Routes and Trip Planning

The two routes described follow different paths for cycling: the green cycle route 6119 goes around the Bystřička Reservoir and continues to the municipality of Valašská Bystřice, while the blue cycle route 6018 descends to the reservoir. Different details matter when choosing between a hike and a cycling trip: for the nature trail, consider its 7 km length and the activities mentioned for each season; for the cycle routes, consider whether they go around the reservoir or descend to it.

Castle Ruins and Traditional Crafts

The remains of a medieval castle stand on the rocky summit of Zámčisko on Mount Klenov, which the nature trail reaches. Ceramic finds date the castle’s existence to the 14th century. Traditional crafts are also part of the area’s history: Bystřička was once known for making torches, Křivák knives and wooden vessels for domestic use, referred to as “valašský porcelán.” The area’s cultural history therefore spans a technical cultural monument, medieval castle ruins and traditional local crafts.
