Růžďka: Nature, Hiking Destinations and History
Accommodation in Růžďka
When planning a trip to Růžďka, you can choose between different focuses, including nature, hiking trails and local history. The route information varies, as do the natural monuments: sometimes it describes the distance to a single destination, sometimes the length of a nature trail; the landscapes highlight meadows, juniper and wetlands. This lets you tailor your stay to the topics that interest you most.
Hiking destinations and routes
The Poledník Obelisk is about 3 km on foot from the Růžďka municipal office, via unmarked local paths. The red hiking route and cycle routes 6018 and 6119 pass by the site. The Klenov nature trail is 7 km long. The approximately 3 km to the obelisk and the total length of the nature trail are different route measurements, each offering its own useful reference point for planning.
The Žaba rock formation in the cadastral area of Růžďka is a tourist destination offering expansive views of the surrounding area. Access is from the Růžďka municipal office or the terminus, along a local road to the Dušná guesthouse; from there, it is about 1 km along a forest path. As trail conditions can vary, check them and the route signs at Poledník before setting out.
Protected landscapes
The Louky pod Štípou Natural Monument protects remnants of flower-rich meadows with orchids and specially protected plant species. Plants found there include the heath spotted-orchid, early marsh-orchid, roof gladiolus and marsh helleborine. The Růžděcký Vesník Natural Monument lies on the eastern edge of the settlement of the same name. It is a former juniper pasture on a slope between forests. Růžděcký Vesník also has flower-rich meadows with a large population of the heath spotted-orchid.
The Lúčky–Roveňky Natural Monument lies in the cadastral area of Růžďka, about 1 km below the village. It protects wet meadows and hillside springs with rare orchids and other rare wetland plants. Rare animals that may occur there include the common toad, yellow-bellied toad, fire salamander, common lizard, sand lizard and slow worm. Unlike the flower-rich meadows and the former juniper pasture, this area is defined by wetland habitats and springs.
Local history and buildings
The present-day Church of St Bartholomew was built in 1807. Its wooden main altar was made in 1891 by the School of Woodworking in Valašské Meziříčí. The altarpiece of St Bartholomew was painted by the artist Schindler from Vsetín in 1878, before the main altar was made in 1891. A monument in Růžďka commemorates the Evangelicals murdered in 1777; it was erected in 1927. Historically, knife-making, especially the making of Křivák knives, was Růžďka’s most widespread form of home-based work. The church, monument and knife-making thus offer three different perspectives on local history: the history of the building and its furnishings, the remembrance of the Evangelicals murdered in 1777, and home-based work.
