Dolní Lhota: Landscape, History and Hotels
Accommodation in Dolní Lhota
Dolní Lhota can be explored through several specific aspects: its location at the foot of the Bílé Karpaty, a church with a recent history of construction, and local traditions. There are also named sports facilities, as well as information about roads and railway stations. Together, these offer a picture of the landscape, history and practical orientation for your trip.
Location in the valley and by the protected area
The village lies in the valley of the Horní Olšava, also called Šťávnice, and at the foot of the Bílé Karpaty Protected Landscape Area. At the southern edge of the cadastral area are wooded areas and the 521-metre-high hill of Kameničná. The valley and protected area place Dolní Lhota within the landscape, while Kameničná is specifically located at the southern edge of its cadastral area. This gives you both the village’s location and a named hill at the edge of its area as points of reference.
Local history and pilgrimage
Dolní Lhota was first mentioned in writing in 1449. A more recent chapter in the village’s history is the Church of Panny Marie Karmelské: it was built between 2007 and 2014 and consecrated in 2014. The two dates mark different milestones—the first written mention of the village and the year the church was consecrated.
The pilgrimage of Dolní Lhota is also part of the religious calendar. It is celebrated every year on the third Sunday in July, after the pilgrimages of Újezd and Slopné. If you would like to plan your trip around this date, check the exact date for that year locally.
Another local tradition is the carnival procession: it is organised by firefighters and accompanied by a small brass band. If the procession is important to your travel plans, check locally whether it is taking place during your travel period and when.
Sports facilities in the village
There is a tennis court with a reservation system. You can check whether it has already been booked; availability depends on the date. Another sports facility is the multi-purpose hall, which opened on 1 October 2009. It is intended not only for the primary school but also for the general public. Its facilities allow for tennis, volleyball, basketball, floorball, indoor football, aerobics and other sports activities. Check whether the hall is currently available before visiting. For planning purposes, two different details are relevant: you can check whether the tennis court has been booked, while the hall can accommodate a range of sports.
Getting there and finding your way around
The busy Luhačovice–Zlín road runs through Dolní Lhota. Another road branches off it in the village and leads to Valašské Klobouky. The nearest railway stations are listed as Luhačovice, 7 kilometres away on the Luhačovice–Uherský Brod line, and Zádveřice, 10 kilometres away on the Otrokovice–Zlín–Vizovice line. The two stations are on different railway lines; take this into account when planning your trip and check the distances before setting off. This lets you distinguish between the road that runs through the village and the separate railway stations as two different reference points for getting there.
