Březůvky: Local History, Chapel and Kapřín Reservoir
Accommodation in Březůvky
Březůvky brings together local history, notable buildings and water-related places to visit.
Buildings and Local History
The timber-framed barn in Březůvky is a monument of exceptional historical, material and architectural significance for the municipality and the entire Luhačovické Zálesí region. If you also plan your stay around architectural and cultural history, it offers a tangible point of interest with local and regional significance. The word “timber-framed” describes a building method in which wooden elements are joined by hand, and helps identify the barn as a timber structure.
An earlier village tradition tells of masked figures disguised as pea straw, straw ropes and inside-out fur coats, who climbed a tree in the village square and delivered satirical sermons from there. Some people were publicly mocked for amusement; those targeted had to buy their way out of the accusations at the inn. The custom thus combines disguises and satirical speech in the village square with a subsequent buyout at the inn.
The Chapel of St. Agnes of Bohemia is Březůvky’s most prominent landmark and is visible from the western edge of the municipality. Construction began in 1998; at the end of August 2002, the completed chapel was solemnly consecrated by Bishop Mgr. Hrdlička. The two dates distinguish the start of construction from the later consecration and provide a timeline for the building’s creation.
The barn and chapel offer different cultural perspectives: the barn’s value as a monument and its importance to the municipality and region are central, while the chapel stands out as the most prominent landmark, with its construction history and visibility from the western edge of the municipality.
Kapřín Reservoir and the Spring
Kapřín Reservoir is about 200 metres long and almost 100 metres wide, making it roughly twice as long as it is wide. Recreational swimming is free there; check the current local conditions before swimming. Sport fishing is also possible at the reservoir. The dimensions give you an idea of its size, while the two activities describe different uses of the water.
The Lukáščena spring is about one kilometre from Březůvky. Residents of the surrounding villages, tourists and drivers often stop there to fill containers with water. Its use therefore differs from that of Kapřín: at the spring, people fill containers with water, while the reservoir is used for recreational swimming and sport fishing. This comparison helps you distinguish between the two water-related places to visit.
Getting Your Bearings by Bus
The Březůvky, Na Hutích bus stop is about 100 metres uphill from the end of the small Kapřín Reservoir. Its location can therefore be identified by a named reference point. If you plan to travel by bus, check the timetable before your trip.
