Lutonina can be explored through its natural surroundings, a specifically described route and historical connections. If you are looking for a hotel, these themes can help you decide what to focus on during your trip: landscape and protected area, a route across meadows, or local history from its medieval mention to the Baťa railway project.

Průkopa and the Landscape

Průkopa was first placed under protection on 12 July 1984 and designated a natural monument in 1993. The protected area covers 2.56 hectares; most of it lies within the cadastral area of Lutonina. The species kruštík bahenní, kruštík růžkatý and kruštík širolistý occur in the natural monument. The two years mark different steps: 1984 was when the area was first placed under protection, and 1993 was when it was designated a natural monument. Alongside the specific area size, Průkopa is therefore distinguished by its protection history and the species found there. The area figure answers a different question from the species names: 2.56 hectares describes the extent, while the three names specify the species that occur there.

Route Across Meadows and Along the Railway Line

The route described is 12.2 kilometres long and classified as moderate. About halfway along, the path turns towards Lutonina and passes extensive meadows alongside Průkopa Natural Monument. The route also follows a cycle path along the trackbed of the never-completed Baťa railway. Length and difficulty rating answer different questions: the kilometre figure describes the distance, while the rating indicates the level of difficulty. The meadows, natural monument and railway line also give the route description its landscape and historical character.

Local History and Buildings

The first written mention of Lutonina dates from 1261 and is connected with the founding of the Cistercian monastery of Smilheim in Vizovice. The reference to the monastery gives the early mention a specific regional historical context. A later local building is the village forge, built in Lutonina in 1889. A copy of its stone section is on display at the Valašské muzeum v přírodě in Rožnov pod Radhoštěm; the museum is outside Lutonina. Lutonina is also home to the granary of rural property No. 34, which is a cultural monument.

The Baťa Railway

The Baťa company began building the Zlín–Valašská Polanka line in 1934; the project was intended to be extended as far as Púchov. The railway was never completed. Construction began on the Zlín–Valašská Polanka connection; the extension to Púchov was planned as a continuation. This distinction separates the construction that began from the planned expansion target. The historical reference points span different centuries: 1261 marks the first written mention, 1889 the construction of the village forge, and railway construction began in 1934. This makes it possible to distinguish the monastery connection, the building and the industrial plan chronologically.

The information can be distinguished by type when planning a trip: a route has a length and difficulty rating, a protected area has an area and species, and historical connections have specific dates and buildings. If you are looking for a hotel, this can help you weigh whether the route, natural surroundings or local history matters most to you in Lutonina.
