When looking for a place to stay in Poteč, you can first choose the focus of your trip: landscape and views, religious sites, local history or sporting activities. Local features provide concrete points of reference; depending on what you would like to do, different aspects of the town come to the fore.

Landscape and views

Half of the municipal area of Poteč lies within the Bílé Karpaty Protected Landscape Area. At 739 m, Ploštiny is the highest peak in the White Carpathians within the municipality. The area is considered particularly valuable for its landscape and offers beautiful views, especially towards Slovakia. The protected landscape area describes the broader geographical setting; Ploštiny provides a specific elevation and viewpoint within it.

Pilgrimage site and feast day

Dělanovec is a small pilgrimage destination in the hills above Poteč. There you will find the Chapel of Panny Marie Královny and a spring. The place thus combines an explicitly religious purpose with two named local features. The Potečské hody also mark a point in the calendar: they are held regularly on 28 September and begin with a festive Mass at the local chapel. If you are interested in this occasion, the date gives you a specific point of reference for planning your trip. The hody offer a different way to experience Poteč than a visit to Dělanovec: here, the focus is on a regularly scheduled occasion that begins with a festive Mass.

Local history and culture

Fruit growing was widespread; apples and plums were dried, and later distilling spirits was added. Thus, the local way of life first involved using the fruit and later also processing it into another product. Agriculture and arable farming were also among the traditional livelihoods. At home, shingles and felt-cloth soles were made for valašské slipper makers. The combination of shingles and felt-cloth soles shows how varied home production was. Paintings by the artist Bohumír Lindauer also hang in a chapel in Poteč. Alongside the religious sites, these paintings add an artistic aspect to the historical and cultural view of Poteč.

Sport with clear conditions of use

For sporting activities, there is a multipurpose sports field in Poteč. The rules of use published in 2017 specify daily public opening hours from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. They provided for use of the field by reservation for tennis, small-sided football, handball, nohejbal, volleyball and basketball; ice hockey required sufficient ice formation. The opening hours and use by reservation are two separate planning considerations: the opening hours set the timeframe, while the reservation applies to sporting use. Check the current reservation conditions before your visit; for ice hockey, sufficient ice formation is also essential.
