Sehradice lies in the valley of the Horní Olšava at an average elevation of 316 metres. The village’s history includes a former trade route and the biographies of two composers, while its landscape is characterised by meadows and pastures. Routes with different destinations also provide practical points of reference for planning your trip: one nature trail starts in Sehradice and ends in Luhačovice, while another route leads to the ruins of Sehrad Castle.

Landscape and Agriculture

The Vizovické vrchy Nature Park lies in the northern part of Sehradice. Meadows and pastures make up most of the agricultural land. Sehradice is also known for growing plums and apples. This means the village’s description brings together two distinct perspectives: the nature park to the north and the agricultural land that accounts for most of the area in use. Plums and apples add a specific agricultural focus to these features of the village.

Music and Local History

František Maňas was born in Sehradice and wrote over 100 dance and light music compositions. Václav Maňas wrote more than 100 popular compositions for wind and mixed orchestras. The musical details highlight different aspects: František Maňas is associated mainly with dance and light music, while Václav Maňas’s compositions were written for particular types of orchestra. The Maňasovy Sehradice music festival is also part of Sehradice’s cultural life.

The Sehradský Gulášfest is another named local event. At its third edition in 2025, visitors could sample and rate all the goulash dishes on offer for an admission fee. The village’s history stretches back further: Sehradice was founded on a trade route that ran from Trenčín through the Vlárský průsmyk to Olomouc. Another historical record is the 1936 memorial book of the Municipality of Sehradice, which the municipality has digitised.

Sehrad Castle and Historical Traces

Sehrad Castle lies in the surrounding area of Sehradice, outside the settlement itself. It is also known as Engelsberk and Tetov, and was built above Horní Lhota at the end of the 13th century. The ruins show individual ramparts of the complex outer fortification, a few remnants of walls and a mound where the tower once stood. The site may gradually change over time.

Another historical landmark is located in the centre of Sehradice: a cross listed as an immovable cultural monument. Along with the castle’s history, it offers another local point of interest, while the trade route places the village’s founding in a broader historical context.

Routes with Different Destinations

The Literárně-historické toulky Slavičínskem nature trail starts in Sehradice and ends in Luhačovice. It is intended for pedestrians and has information boards. Route details were published in 2022; check the route before planning your trip.

A blue-marked hiking trail leads from a stop to the ruins of Sehrad Castle. The route is just under two kilometres long. The main difference between the two routes described is their destination: the nature trail connects Sehradice with Luhačovice, while the shorter, blue-marked trail leads to the castle ruins. Check the trail markings before setting out.
