Kašava lies in the deep valley of the Dřevnice River and in the Hostýnské vrchy Nature Park. The destination combines hiking trails and viewpoints with protected natural areas and local history. When planning your trip, the main question is whether you would like to focus on trails, landscapes, or historic sites. The Naučná stezka Kašava nature trail brings together several of the area’s themes; the Stations of the Cross and viewpoints offer additional perspectives.

Hiking the Nature Trail and the Stations of the Cross

The Naučná stezka Kašava nature trail is 17.5 kilometres long and has eleven stations, two benches, and 32 signposts. Its themes range from local history, parish life, and school to traditions, folklore, and customs, as well as motorsports. It also covers the vanished settlement of Janůvky and the crash of an American bomber in 1944. Nature, springs, and viewpoints round out the range of topics. On the nature trail, you will encounter both local history and themes related to nature and landscapes.

The Stations of the Cross climb uphill towards Vinohrádek above Kašava and are lined with 14 traditional biblical stations. The route follows a yellow trail marker and passes close to the nature trail’s second station near Vinohrádek. A hiking trail through Kašava also passes the Chapel of Panny Marie Královny at Vinohrádek.

From Vrzavé skály, a descent through the forest passes the Liduška spring and continues back towards Kašava. Trail conditions may vary.

Viewpoints and Nature

From Vrzavé skály, you can look southwest towards the Vizovické vrchy, the waters of the Slušovická přehrada reservoir, and the Kašava valley. Another perspective is offered by the upland meadow near Vinohrádek, from where you can see the Vizovické vrchy and the summit of Doubrava, with its television transmitter and observation tower. Both viewpoints look out towards the Vizovické vrchy, but each offers a different emphasis: at Vrzavé skály, the reservoir and valley are part of the panorama; at Vinohrádek, the prominent summit and its structures take centre stage.

The Nad Kašavou Natural Monument lies within the cadastral area of Kašava. It protects the habitat of a mesic Arrhenatherum meadow. The area is home to rare plants and animals, including the sand lizard, the red-backed shrike, and the golden oriole. These specific habitats and species offer a different perspective on the landscape from the viewpoints.

Culture and History in Kašava

The Church of sv. Kateřiny is a protected cultural monument and a Baroque building dating from before the mid-18th century. The existence of a church in Kašava and its right of patronage are documented in the Land Tables for 1480; Saint Catherine was chosen as its patron saint. The building’s character and the church’s earlier history give the area a distinct cultural and historical dimension.

A monument to fallen American airmen also stands along a hiking trail. Together with the Chapel of Panny Marie Královny and the Church of sv. Kateřiny, these are different religious and historical landmarks found in the area and along its trails.
