Vlčková: Nature, hiking trails and the Chapel of St. Martin
Accommodation in Vlčková
Vlčková is a suitable destination for travellers who want to plan their stay around hiking trails, protected nature and a historic local landmark. Marked hiking trails around the village lead to the protected Bzová natural area and are suitable for walking. The Chapel of St. Martin offers another specific point of interest to consider when planning your trip.
Hiking trails around Vlčková
There are rest areas and springs along the marked tourist trails around Vlčková. The circular route “Hostýnskými vrchy IV (Around Vlčková)” starts in the centre of Vlčková, opposite the chapel, and passes through the surrounding area. Check local trail conditions before setting off. Further afield in the region, a green-marked hiking trail leads from the Okluka signpost to the Přední skály rock formations in Ondřejovsko; from there, you can reach the rocks in less than half an hour.
The two routes mainly differ in their starting points and destinations: the circular route starts opposite the chapel and passes through the surrounding area, while the route from Okluka leads to a named rock formation. This lets you choose between a loop around the village and this specific destination further afield in the region.
Bzová and Ondřejovsko: two natural highlights
The Bzová Natural Monument lies within the cadastral area of Vlčková. It protects a beech old-growth forest with sycamore maple and fir. Rare species found in the natural monument include the Italian arum, stock dove, middle spotted woodpecker, goshawk and sparrowhawk. Bzová is notable both for its protected forest and for its rare plant and bird species.
Ondřejovsko offers a different focus: its rocky slopes feature beech, sycamore maple and elm trees, and have a distinctly old-growth character. The ridge of Ondřejovsko and its wider surroundings are an important breeding and refuge area for numerous bird species. In contrast to Bzová, the defining natural features here also include the rocky landscape and the extensive bird habitat. Vlčková is also located in the Hostýnské vrchy Nature Park and has a harmonious cultural landscape of enhanced scenic value.
The chapel and local life
The Chapel of St. Martin was built in 1900 in honour of Saint Martin. It also serves as a landmark for the circular route, which starts in the village centre directly opposite the chapel. This historic landmark is therefore also a practical starting point for planning a hike.
Local events include the traditional children’s day, “Dětský den s hledáním pokladu” (Children’s Day with a Treasure Hunt), held around the gardeners’ house. By 2026, the local gardeners’ organisation had held the event twelve times; the 12th edition was documented in May 2026. If you would like to plan your stay around the children’s day, check the latest dates in advance.
