Discover Držková
Accommodation in Držková
Hiking, rocky landscapes, and local history reveal different sides of Držková. When planning, it helps to distinguish between longer routes, marked trails, and individual sights: the paths lead in different directions, while museums and historic places offer insights into local history.
Hiking and Rocky Landscapes
The Držkovské chodníčky educational trail is located in Držková in the Hostýnské vrchy. Its longest route is 21.6 kilometers long. You can join the trail at any point; information boards help you find your way. This lets you consider the starting point and route length as separate aspects of your planning.
Přední Skaly rise above Držková, offering views of the village and its valley from their peaks. The rock formations consist of sandstone and conglomerate and were designated a natural monument in 1987. Both experienced and less advanced climbers climb at Přední Skaly. The views, rock types, and designated protection status each provide a distinct point of interest in this rocky landscape.
Other viewpoints and trail junctions offer different perspectives, too: From Vančica, the view extends to Troják and Kotáry. U Třech kamenů is a well-known hiking trail junction at an elevation of 735 meters above sea level. From there, marked trails lead to Tesák, Troják, and Hostýn. Three sandstone boundary stones can still be seen at U Třech kamenů.
Marked Trails and Cycling Routes
The hiking trails differ in their markings and directions. A red-marked trail passes through Držková and continues toward Tesák and Rajnochovice. A blue-marked trail starts in Držková and leads toward Kopná and Baťková. Check the route of the marked trails locally before setting out.
Cycling also offers a choice of routes in different directions. Cycle Route 5038 runs from Držková through easier terrain to Rusava and onward to Hostýn. Cycle Route 6124 passes through the Májová district toward Vsetín; Cycle Route 6123 connects Držková with Hošťálková. The routes described therefore differ both in their destinations and in the terrain along the way. Check the routes locally before setting off on these as well.
Nature in the Cadastral Area
The entire cadastral area of Držková lies within the Hostýnské vrchy Nature Park. The northern part of the cadastral area is also part of the Hostýnské vrchy Bird Protection Area. These designations cover different parts of the area: the nature park encompasses the entire cadastral area, while the bird protection area covers its northern part.
The Holíkova rezervace Nature Reserve is located in the cadastral area of Držková, about one kilometer north of the village. It features sandstone outcrops and the Zadní skály rock formations. Beech trees make up most of the mixed forest in Holíkova rezervace. Thirteen maintained springs are scattered throughout the cadastral area of Držková. Frdlantka is a spring in a wooden trough near the old Slovákova dřevěnice in Košařiska.
Local History and Traditions
The Muzeum dřevěného porculánu is located in the center of Držková and preserves about 450 exhibits. They document life in the past in Držková and Valašsko. The collection also includes evidence of the former home production of wooden tools and utensils in Držková. The museum is open year-round, but visits must be arranged in advance by phone or email. Confirm the arrangement before your arrival.
Local buildings include the Kaple svatého Václava in the center of Držková and the Čihařova chalupa. The chapel was completed and consecrated on August 31, 1930. Čihařova chalupa is the only listed building in Držková. It was dismantled in Jasenná in 1981 and rebuilt in Ráztoky in Držková. The locations distinguish between its former site in Jasenná and the place where it was rebuilt in Ráztoky.
Another local tradition is the Končiny – vodění medvěda masked procession, which includes leading a bear. The old tradition was revived in Držková by firefighters in the 1990s. The date is not fixed but is calculated based on Easter. The procession includes ten to twenty masked figures and passes through Držková’s scattered farms and clearings. If you would like to include it in your travel plans, check the date in advance.
