Vysoké Pole: Klášťov, Pilgrimage Chapel and Envicentrum
Accommodation in Vysoké Pole
Vysoké Pole combines archaeological history with routes to a pilgrimage chapel, an observation tower and Envicentrum PRO KRAJINU. When planning your stay, you can consider whether you mainly want to explore Klášťov and its past, choose one of the routes to its destinations, or learn about traditional land management and the landscape.
Klášťov: Hillfort and Archaeological History
The remains of the Klášťov hillfort are located within the municipality of Vysoké Pole; the summit of Klášťov is 753 metres high. Klášťov is the highest peak in the Vizovice Highlands in the Zlín Region. The fortified settlement is dated to prehistory and the Early Middle Ages and is considered the highest hillfort of its kind in Moravia. Its first construction is estimated to have taken place between about 900 and 750 BC, at the transition from the Late Bronze Age to the Early Iron Age.
Finds at Klášťov include iron deposits and agricultural and craft tools. They are associated with the interpretation of the site as a cult centre of the ancient Slavs. The site can therefore be explored both through its long history of settlement and by considering the significance of the finds for this interpretation. Visitors interested in archaeology will find a specific timeframe and a distinctive place for the site within Moravia.
Vysocká Pilgrimage Chapel and the Route There
The pilgrimage chapel of the Virgin Mary, known as “Vysocká”, was built near a spring in 1748. The spring water is believed to have healing properties. The present-day chapel was consecrated on 5 June 1876. Its building history, pilgrimage tradition and stories about the spring give a visit a different focus from Klášťov’s prehistoric and early medieval history.
A 12-kilometre walking route leads from Valašské Klobouky railway station via Mirošov, Drnovice and Vysoké Pole to the chapel. The station is on line 283. Check the local waymarking before setting out. The chapel is also the destination of one of the two “Kočárková stezka” routes, which start in the centre of Vysoké Pole.
Routes with Different Destinations
Both “Kočárková stezka” routes follow paved paths and are suitable for pushchairs. Cars can be parked in the centre of the village, their shared starting point. One route leads to the national cultural monument at the site of the burned-down settlement of Ploština; the other leads to Vysocká Chapel and its healing spring. This gives you a choice of different destinations: on the one hand, a place connected with the history of Ploština; on the other, the chapel and its pilgrimage tradition and stories about the spring.
Another route is called “Over Klášťov to the Ploština Memorial”. It also starts in the centre of the village and offers views of the White Carpathians. The starting point is therefore a shared landmark, while the routes lead to their own destinations and offer different experiences.
Envicentrum and Observation Tower
Envicentrum PRO KRAJINU Vysoké Pole organises educational and information events. Its work focuses on preserving traditional land-management practices in the region. Visitors can spend time with the farm animals and walk through the countryside. In this way, the centre complements the historic sites with an introduction to regional agriculture and the landscape, which you can explore on foot.
The Vysoké Pole observation tower is 15 metres high and is made of larch beams on a concrete base. It is directly accessible on foot from Vysoké Pole. If you are planning your stay around particular themes, the different highlights are easy to distinguish: Klášťov stands for its hillfort and archaeological finds, the chapel for pilgrimage and stories about the spring, and Envicentrum for traditional land management and experiencing nature. The tower and the route with views of the White Carpathians add further destinations to your stay in Vysoké Pole.
