Bořenovice: Historic Chapels and Cycling Routes
Accommodation in Bořenovice
Bořenovice can be explored for trip planning through two specific themes: historic memorial sites and cycling routes through the village. Chapels, a bell tower and several monuments represent different chapters in the village’s history; at the same time, cycling routes pass through Bořenovice and connect it with other places. If you are looking for a hotel for a stay in Bořenovice, these themes can help you decide which destinations and activities to include in your plans.
Chapels and Marian Devotion
The Baroque chapel of the Šinkyřík family was built in 1885 and is dedicated to the Nativity of the Virgin Mary. It stands on the road to Pacetluky. It is associated with an earlier pilgrimage tradition: the residents of Bořenovice once walked in prayer from this Marian chapel to the pilgrimage site of Svatý Hostýn. Its construction history, dedication and the historic procession to Svatý Hostýn illustrate different aspects of the village’s religious history.
The stone statue of Panna Maria Svatohostýnská stands on the right at the exit towards Pacetluky. It was created in 1946 to commemorate the end of the Second World War and in gratitude that Bořenovice suffered no fatalities in that war. It thus combines a religious motif with a specific local occasion for remembrance.
Bell Tower and War Memorial
The Bořenovská zvonice adds a structure with its own historical function to the chapels. It was probably built during the reign of Maria Theresa and historically served both as a warning signal and as a call to prayer. It was declared a cultural monument in 2010. It is also one of the oldest surviving village bell towers in the Zlínský kraj.
At the entrance to the village from the direction of Holešov stands a cross-shaped memorial to the soldiers who fell in the First World War. It commemorates seven fallen soldiers from Bořenovice and was erected on 1 September 1922. Unlike the chapels, the cross commemorates those who died in the war.
Wayside Shrines on the Road Between Holešov and Bořenovice
Closer to Bořenovice is Kaplička pod lípou – Boží muka, a small wayside shrine beneath a broad-spreading linden tree. It was probably built in the mid-18th century. Closer to Holešov stands another chapel, built around 1874. The two chapel sites therefore differ both in their positions along the same road and in their approximate dates of construction.
Cycling Routes Through Bořenovice
There are two distinct cycling options. A paved farm track runs from Pacetluky through Bořenovice to Holešov, where cyclists can join regional cycling route 5033. By contrast, the microregional cycling loop runs through Holešov, Bořenovice, Pacetluky, Karlovice, Kostelec u Hol., Roštění and Rymice. One route leads to Holešov, where you can optionally join route 5033; the other is designed as a loop through several villages. When planning a ride, you can choose between a route to Holešov and the loop. Check route conditions before cycling.
The Windmill: Former Site and Museum
The former Bořenovský windmill was built in Bořenovice in 1795 and stood east of the village until 1976. The wooden windmill of the German type, relocated from nearby Bořenovice, is now at the Rymice Open-Air Museum. Bořenovice is therefore the mill’s historic site, while Rymice is its museum location.
