When searching for hotels in Koryčany, you can plan your stay around specific interests: the castle garden, historic buildings or a longer hike. These priorities bring different aspects to your travel planning; the route description specifies the distance and duration.

Castle Garden, Rocks and Nature

Koryčany Castle is not open to the public, but its well-maintained garden can be visited year-round. Check the visiting conditions before you travel. The castle park covers 2.8 hectares and offers a specific point of reference when planning a garden visit.

Near Koryčany is Kazatelna, a sandstone rock that rises from the hillside. Steps carved into the rock are part of this striking landscape feature; the view stretches across the Kyjovka Valley to the opposite ridge of the Chřibské hřbety, Cimburk Castle and part of the Koryčanská přehrada. This view of the surrounding area brings together both the valley and several well-known destinations in the landscape.

Moravanské lúky is also nearby. This complex of woodland meadows and small forest clearings covers 8.72 hectares and was designated a nature reserve on October 28, 1990. A different specific visiting condition applies at the Koryčanská přehrada: swimming is prohibited because the entire reservoir lies within Drinking Water Protection Zone 1. Check local regulations before planning activities on the water.

Building History and Cultural Monuments

Koryčany Castle is a Baroque château built after 1677. The Thonetova vila tells a different story: it was built in 1896 to a design by the Vienna-based Fellner & Helmer studio. In March 2023, the Czech Ministry of Culture declared the villa a cultural monument. Its year of construction and its later designation as a monument mark two distinct points in its history.

The parish church in Koryčany, dedicated to Saint Lawrence, is first mentioned in 1350. The church houses a life-size Gothic wooden statue of the Virgin Mary dating from around the end of the 14th century. The church’s date and the statue’s approximate period thus offer two distinct historical points of reference for this site.

The Jewish cemetery in Koryčany contains more than 200 tombstones. The oldest surviving tombstone dates from 1674. In the 1990s, the cemetery was designated a state-protected cultural monument. The number of tombstones, the age of the oldest surviving example and the later designation each offer a different perspective on the cemetery’s history.
