If you choose a destination based on your historical interests, Předenice offers a clear starting point: its history spans its first mention, changes in ownership and a former fortified site. The Chapel of the Virgin Mary is also associated with the village. Other historical topics relate to Nebílovy and Dolní Lukavice. This lets you consider the development of Předenice and the architectural and cultural history of these places as distinct areas of interest.

Local history: mention and division

Předenice was first mentioned in a 1239 document from Kladruby Monastery. Before 1379, the village passed from ecclesiastical to secular ownership. In the 15th century, the estates of Předenice gradually split into two parts of the village. These developments form a sequence: the early documentary mention, the change in ownership and the gradual division of the estates. Předenice’s history therefore cannot be reduced to a single date; the events mentioned mark different stages in the village’s history.

Later affiliations further distinguish the two parts. In 1540, Trystan of the Předenice family sold one part of Předenice to the Nebílovy estate. The second part was assigned to the Řenče estate in 1603 and later to Dolní Lukavice. The connection to Nebílovy therefore concerns one part, while Řenče and later Dolní Lukavice feature in the history of the second part. This distinction makes the sequence easier to understand without merging the two historical strands into a single event.

Surviving traces and the chapel

The former fortified site of Předenice stood where house no. 27 is today; earthworks survive in its garden. The site lost its function as a noble residence and fell into ruin. This distinguishes the surviving earthworks from the site’s former role: the earthworks are a trace preserved at the location, while the noble residence belongs to the history of the former fortified site. The Chapel of the Virgin Mary is also associated with Předenice. It adds a religious building to the village’s history, while the earthworks recall the fortified site.

Nebílovy: nature trail and history

The Nebílovy nature trail offers a different way to explore historical topics. It is 5.7 km long and has six stations with information panels. The starting point is at the Baroque château in Nebílovy. Along the trail is a column with a statue of the Holy Trinity, dating from approximately the mid-18th century. The route length and number of stations provide two concrete details for planning; the column adds a historical highlight. The trail thus combines a clearly defined route with a single building whose period is known.

Dolní Lukavice: architectural and musical history

Dolní Lukavice Château offers a perspective on architecture and music. It was built from 1708 onward to a design by the architect Jakub Auguston the Younger. Joseph Haydn worked at the château from 1758 to 1760 and composed his first symphony there. The château therefore brings architectural and musical history together. Dolní Lukavice also features in the history of the second part of Předenice, which was assigned to the Řenče estate in 1603 and later to Dolní Lukavice. This historical connection is distinct from the château’s architectural and musical history. Together, these topics offer different historical focal points without presupposing a specific route between the places.
