Losiná: Local History and Traditions
Accommodation in Losiná
Losiná combines a distinctive historic townscape with a layered local history and recurring festivals. Its story ranges from the long village square with a stream and well-preserved farm entrances to neoclassical architecture, mining history and an event from the Thirty Years’ War. For planning your stay, recurring event dates and scheduled bus services are also worth noting.
Townscape and Architectural History
The historic centre of Losiná consists of a long, broad, street-like village square with a stream running through the middle. Several traditional farmsteads remain on the square, and their entrance gates are very well preserved. These include both vaulted gates and newer gates with pillars. The layout of the square and the surviving gates give the townscape two distinct scales: the elongated open space and the individual farm entrances.
St. Anne’s Chapel is a small neoclassical building with a square floor plan. It was built in the second half of the 19th century and has been protected as a cultural monument since 6 October 2006. Its pyramidal roof is topped by a small bell tower. Its architectural significance lies above all in its geometric design, balanced proportions and strict central symmetry.
History of the Village and Its Surroundings
Losiná is thought to have early feudal origins. It was transferred in 1327 under Jaroslav ze Štěnovic. On 11 October 1620, during the Thirty Years’ War, the village was attacked by Hungarian horsemen serving the Bohemian Estates. Its history thus spans a presumed early origin, a transfer of ownership and a precisely dated wartime event.
The Antonínská silver mine was located near Losiná and operated for about fifty years from the end of the 17th century. This approximate period places mining in a later chapter of local history.
A statue of St. John of Nepomuk on an Ionic column stands on the road to Nebílovy. The year 1740 is inscribed on its pedestal.
